MSI Z77 Gaming Series Motherboards

^^ I agree with that mate! Though the MPower sure does come close! And you can paint the Heatsink plates to make it fit any colourscheme you want! I still think the Z77 Gaming Series are a bit pointless, but they're said to only cost a tiny bit more than the current Z77A series from MSI, and they sure do have some nice features!

In the CES booth I think the MSI guy was showing a couple of new upcoming x79 boards and he was saying they may or may not be branded as "gaming" when they come up. I guess they are going to be using that naming at least with these. Personally I dislike stuff that is specifically branded as "gaming" I just think it is a bit tacky, no doubt this will be a good board, though.

seriously! i dont hate this one too much, but stuff like the G1 assassin 2 and the msi Xpower 2. the all black color scheme of the xpower 2 would be AMAZING if it wasn't for the gun stuff. i dont really understand the fascination with putting small fake versions of things on completely unrelated things.

Yeah, I saw that on the Linus' unboxing! I laughed my arse off.

Tbh, if they did this on cheaper 1155 boards I could imagine. There are a lot of kids with a tight budget out there that want to get into PC building and think that stuff is cool.

Socket 2011 however, is aimed at enthousiasts, people who do editing and rendering (usually a more mature crowd), not necessarily gamers. I think that there are actually quite a lot of people put off by this.

It's like those fans that change LED colours... Kids think it's cool, I'd be seriously annoyed by them after a few hours. I think there are a lot of manufacturers out there that don't really know what their customer wants, because they don't even know who the customer is.

I would be curious to see the sales numbers for the Assassin 2. I dont think i can recall ever seeing a build using the assassin 2. At least gigabyte also makes very pretty boards like that X79 UP4 mentioned earlier

Same mate, don't see them a lot even though there are a fair amount of black & green builds out there nowadays. Even those people prefer to use black boards. I was going to do a build with the UP4 but due to my mum not paying me back €800,- I'll have to cut down a bit and go socket 1155 or Haswell

And yes... Yes, I do. Called them migraine machines for obvious reasons :lol:

I had one of the Gigabyte Assasin X58 boards and it was great till a chip on the back of the board melted.

I honestly prefer the looks of the Asus ROG boards, but I am currently trying to decide about upgrading to Sandy Bridge E or wait till Haswell gets reviewed.

My 2 favourite colours are Red and Black so that's why the ROG boards appeal to me even though, I will never use all the features.

I had the Gigabyte board because I was doing a Green and Black themed pc with coolant etc, but I ended up changing to Red and Black when the board died and I replaced it with a Rampage III Extreme.

If you like black and red look at the MSI GD65 Gaming board.

2011 socket is pointless unless you are rending/benchmarking all the time. Games really dont make use of the extra core enough to make it worthwhile.

You do have a point though, this is a gamer oriented board, and Red and Black is a very popular colour scheme, so it kind of makes sense
Of course you should always pick a board you like though
