MSI R9-290 opinions

Yes well my choices are pretty limited as i've given gigabyte the arse and now given sapphire the arse too due to warranty or lack there of and hope to be purchasing a pair of these along with a msi gaming 9 with 4790k in about 4-6 weeks providing my house sale don't fall over again that is..... so yeah just wanted some feedback from people who own them

My suppliers don't carry powercolor and I have never seen club 3d in Australia, so it leaves me to choose between Asus, MSI, or XFX so I thought the way to go would be MSI

Yeah I'd go that way as well. The XFX cards are really hit and miss (but look really nice imo). The ASUS ones are probably the most solid warranty wise but they also can be pretty poor performing on occasion, its almost a 50-50 split whether you'll get a decent on or a crap one. Some reviewers claim the ASUS DCUII does 75c (uber mode, which is 50-60% fan speed) while others claim 90. The MSI one tops out around 85c, so its no Tri-x card. The MSI lightning is the coolest running of them all however it costs alot.

Mate I agree with what you are saying,TBH I would love a couple of lightnings but the gamings are $500au but the lightnings are hard to get and are $830au so it looks to me that Im getting the best that i can for my $$

How much space will there be between the cards? I also imagine that as those cards jsut chuck the heat out everywhere you need a very decent fan setup.

Well from what I can see there is three slot gaps on the MSI Gaming 9 and with the 4x140mm fans at the front of the Switch 810 pulling air in and two of them pointed at the cards I think I should be good, my main concern is the amount of heat rising to the top of the case so I'm thinking of changing the H100i to a H105 in push pull, hoping that the slightly thicker rad will help keep the 4790k cool and the push pull configuration will help keep the air going and with the rear fan on intake instead of exhaust should help keep the dust out.

Ive always liked the MSI Twin Frozr models. I think theyre one of the best aftermarket coolers on the market. As for the cards themselves, theyre as good a quality as any of the major name brands. Ive had MSI cards before and had no problems out of them.

Nice to know, I must say I've really enjoyed my Z77-MPower motherboard which is why I'm pretty confident in trying out their graphics cards and buying another motherboard from them also It don't hurt to get opinions from my buds here on OC3D!

Maybe look at two Club3D RoyalAce 290's? TTL reviewed it earlier and gave it a gold.

Or maybe Sapphire's Toxic 290 range? Either way Sapphire, Club3D, PowerColour and MSI all make really good 290's and 290X's. (I personally don't like the aesthetics of the DCUII cooler from Asus)

I would recommend looking through all the reviews and then picking the best one that at the same time suits your taste.

Thanks for the info but I can't buy Club3D here in Australia and after the way Sapphire responded to my issues they can take a long walk off a short pier so that's why Im going MSI
