MSI Intel X79 and Sandy Bridge-E Preview

I was expecting something higher than 5GHz considering what they were using for cooling the chips. I wonder how high/good the temps/stability will be with air cooling.

No benchmarks though, you can't really judge the performance of a CPU until you have solid benches.

The amount of ghz doesn't really matter either because you could have a CPU that at 3ghz is faster than say a 2600K at 5ghz, I have a bad feeling about SB-E I don't know why but something is telling me to stick with Ivy but SB-E will definietly have the performance of a beast.

Still looking forward to seeing more of SB-E though, I read on Aria that RawZ has a SB-E chip and he has changed his sig which now says "Wowza.. X79" so it can't be that bad.

Yup I'm still excited to see how they perform with actual benchmarks

.

Another thing you have to remember as well is that this was a stability test for feedback to the MSI engineers so i'm sure the stability issues will be sorted come release.

Until the actual chip and boards come out on the retail market and proper benchmarks are done with retail samples, i ain't going to believe anything that happens before this.

This still hasent put me off upgrading to SB-e when its released.

QFT!

I'm gagging to spend some cash on this, but all results need to be in first. The generations between an extreme 775 and X79 didn't cut it for me. I'm really looking out for some new tech in the mobo/cpu stakes.

If they can get 5GHz out of it then that's pretty good. I'm a little concerned about the cooler compatability (ideally I'd like to use my ek supreme hf). I guess with a bit more time and what not they would have had more than 5GHz, but it does state that this was more for the developer's testing etc.

Don't get me wrong SB-E will be epic I just have a gut feeling not to go there I don't know why I just do

LGA1366 and LGA2011 use the same mounting holes.

I hope that's the case

I am gagging to get this new system, but the lack of details this close to release is a bit worrying. I guess that many of us will wait till we've seen a few review courtesy of TTL.

well the link i had saved seems to be failing maybe they got introuble do to NDA? maybe i have the wrong link.. im 100% certain it was guru3d. that did a test with also an MSI board.. it said somehting like 3960x with msi preview

I heard there was an overclocking stand or something like that at LITS that shows how to overclock, i wonder if they will be showing how to overclock a 2011 chip
