Having problems with my server, in that Ive not got enough on board sata ports for all my drives. Each one of my drives has another identicle mirroring it. So Ive got 6drives so far in there for data and 2 in raid0 for the OS!

Options are more on board satas or another raid card.

Im pretty sure Id need a pcie card for extra bandwidth wouldnt I?

Can any of you system admin boys give me some pcie bandwidth details with real transfer rates ect?

Dont want to be spending a fortune :(

Transfer rates are a good question.

Generally over a network vista kernel to anything I seemed to be managing 50mbs for the onboard connected ones, but I have some el-cheapo pcie cards that can't keep up with the same speeds as this. More like 15mbs.

Got 1 in a x1 and another in x4. What the differences are here I'm not sure.

Having said that, I've not looked into improving this speed.

I'm in the stage of moving these around so I could throw some HDTach at them using different slots with same drive.

Accross my network between machines I can get 110MB/s with onboard to onboard.

I dont really want to loose this by adding in pcie. Dont really want to spend mega bucks on a card though :(
