Hello all

I have followed the forums for a while but only getting round to a build now and am looking for some advice.

I have just purchased 2 EVGA GTX 690s. ATM as my computer stands I have as follows

P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 http://support.asus....Dh9nqBoiqs2jqua

&

i7 2700K CPU http://www.intel.com...html?proc=61275

The dilemma

Buy the best available IVY 22nm 1155 socket CPU now for around 400€ +- and then upgrade the motherboard and CPU to the 2011 socket, Ivy i7 Extreme edition cpu when ever that becomes available etc

OR

Go ahead and get a 2011 Motherboard and the Extreme i7 3960X 3.3Ghz 15MB S2011 now.

What I was thinking of getting

http://www.intel.com...html?proc=63696

&

http://www.asus.com/...age_IV_Extreme/

Which will throw my colour design a little off (White 500R case,White braided cables,Blue LED on fans and an NZXT led thingymajigy) as my motherboard atm is the blue design but tthats not all that important.

I obviously want to get the most out of the GTX 690s as they at the cost they are, they are pretty much the center piece and want to get the most from them now rather then wait as at the end of the day, there will always be a wait for something better.

I'm just unsure as the best way to go so any and all advice be it small or large will be very much appreciated.

Lets just pretend on this topic money is not an issue.

But also dont want it thrown away needlessly so say for example someone happened to know an exact release date for the IVY extreme edition 2011socket and it was in a month then id obviously wait.

Much appreciation

2011 is a good idea and i know you said that money isn't an issue however the 3930K isn't all that much worse than the 3960X.

And you will end up saving a few hundred on something you don't really need

You don't want money needlessly spent and you bought two 690's. Is that a typo or did you actually waste money on two?

The most important question is what will you be using this system for? If it is just for gaming, than two 690's is huge overkill!!!!

Hi all

Thanks so far for the replies. I will have a further look into the 3930K. As for the 2 690s, I had bought 1 at a pretty average price, as was already going to go for 2x680s Sli, and the 690 has better cooling and looks better IMO, and has less power consumption and while I was waiting for the stock to come in a person I know said they had Won one and was selling it so I got 1 X 690 @ 1000€ and the 2nd one @ 700€. Quad 680s would cost the same if not more so I saw it as a good option considering what they are.

So no it wasnt a typo. The system will be used for many things. 3D graphics design-Photoshop, Music creation using Reason and Cubase. Benchmarking. Some Gaming (cant wait for ass.Creed 3) I am pretty well up on my computer knowledge. I was more just looking for options and opinions, due to the dilemma I'm in with the IVY.

Really appreciate the replies.

PS: I did say "lets pretend money isnt an issue" I never said it wasnt an issue lol

As it stands now I have 3 36" full HD screens. And a 19" monitor will be added later. Only got 1 pair of eyes so that will be plenty for me lol

Not yet, is all in process of being finalised. Ripping out a corner unit to build a better space for everything. Running low on space so 2 screens are boxed away till get all hardware finished and the bits and pieces sorted. Cant wait though. Will certainly post pics and benchmark results if people interested then.

Let's just say, we don't get many members on here that own 2 690s

Well they are very hard to get unless you want the MSI version. Then they are available lol. I RSS subscribed to the place I bought my one and as soon as it came in I grabbed one. There are a few sites that have them available but at either, even crazier money then I spent on my full cost one or they look for bank transfer rather then paypal/credit card along with and I quote

VAT and shipment costs are included. Because the total amount exceeds € 500.- the shipment will be at your own risk. Payment must be done in advanced by bank transfer.

With kind regards,

I found this a lot while trying to track one down. I would be surprised by anyone paying 1k for something to have it shipped at own risk and pay by bank transfer.

I also stayed up and watched the Nvidia release the 690 in shanghai back few months ago so since then iv just had my teeth into them. Its certainly not something I would do often. Had an operation on my back recently so felt I needed to spoil myself a little

More the price than the availability haha! And yeah at own risk is madness.

I actually think the price is relativity fair. 1049€ for the EVGA with transferable warranty. The 3DM11 scores are getting just shy of 2 680s. So if going for Sli setup why not get 1 690. As I said earlier, they are cooler, nicer looking, and less power consumption.

Yeah but 2 690's is a bit foolish really

In your opinion yeh maybe. Not in mine. Not for 1700€. The warranty can be transferred also which is a bonus. For the price I got them at, I have NO regrets. Anyway the point of the thread is not to ask your opinion on the 2 Gtx 690s. I already know what I need to about them, It was asking for your input on a mobo/CPU to go along with them.

you have posted twice on this, both times totally and utterly useless and pointless posts. If you have nothing constructive to add please dont add anything. Thanks

Go with the 3930k and an Asrock extreme 4 or an Asus Sabertooth
