Most efficient GPU with high performance?

Hi guys,

So basically my problem is that I am going to have to live with a relative of mine for a month or so due to renovations being done and I do not want to use too much electricity.

My current PC consists of the following:

CPU: i7 2600k
M/B: Asus Maximus IV extreme-z
GPU: 2x r9 290x
PSU: Corsair RM1000 Gold cert
SSD: OCZ Vertex 4 128GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM
Monitor: Benq M2700HD.

So the main purpose of this thread was to find out what GPU has a good power/performance ratio, I do not mind how much it will cost, as I will just use them in the Mrs PC afterwards. Or should I just keep the 290x's in the PC and continue using it there? it will likely be gaming/under load 16hours a day (well cause binge time) porbably a lot less than 16 hours a day, but might aswell prepare for the worst.

Can always resort to putting one card back in the box or disabling it and continue with one 290x for now.

Or get a GTX 750 Ti. Will probs run most modern titles, although not at very high settings but it's relatively cheap and consumes a lot less power than any other card in that performance range.

yea I was considering 2 750ti in sli, which should equate to around 120W that was the part that got me confused, while maxwell is supposed to be more power efficient, it would require about 4 of these cards to give me the performance of a 290x (4x 750ti ~ 240W). So is it really that much more power efficient compared to the 290x?

I thought 750ti does not support SLI. Even if I'm wrong, it certainly does not support 3/4 way.

Yes, considering the R7 260x/265 are around the performance level of the 750 Ti, but have a rated TDP of 115W each (even higher for the 265).

It doesn't, but he asked for the best effiency/performance card, not which card performed well while sipping slightly less power than other cards in the performance range so I suggested the 750 Ti for the time being.

Perfect for a cheap, power efficient card for the time being that can go in the mrs' PC afterwards.

Do not worry I am fully aware of the 750ti's being unable to support multi card configurations, I was just doing a simple comparison.

though I think I may just stick with my 290x's and just disable one card, though am still considering the 750ti as the Mrs GTX 470 is well you know.

EDIT: Sorry just read my post again, I can see why it was confusion, basically whn I said 750ti in sli I meant it in a comparison situation not as in I was actually going for such a setup haha.

Well, if you're really worried about making his electricity bill higher you could always offer to chip in a little. Probably cheaper than a new GPU anyway

Or indeed just get the 750 Ti and give it to the mrs afterwards, or disable one of your 290x cards.

Probably the most efficient GPU would be a 780ti and then undervolt underclock it.

Having said that it is a lot less hassle/cheaper chipping in with the elec bill with the small amount a graphics card will use compared to spending £500 on a 780ti.

I'd pay those few dollars for the energy cost to your relative instead of buying a new card...

Moreover, your monitor's native resolution is fHD: a single 290X will be more than enough
