Monitor Mod

This is a mod I started on the 7th of August and finished on the 17th.

Gotta be the quickest mod I've ever done, and also one of the most rewarding, perhaps becuase of the immediacy of the results.

That and the fact it cost only a few quid to turn a tired old beige monitor into something that didn't look out of place in it's new home

Anyways, I got given an old beige monitor. Good woking order but very sad looking.

Thought i'd see if I could bring it up to date a little.

Here's the sorry little chap

Stand removed and screen masked (many thanks to Mrs Dubs for donating an old "Homes and Gardens" Magazine, and no, I couldn't possibly use one of my PC magazines instead.

Keyed up and ready for primer/undercoat.

So I got the primer on the monitor tonight. A lovely still night so I could spray outside

The halfords rattle can was not behaving itself however. Dodgy nozzle I think led to lots of clumping and drips from the nozzle which is very rare and thankfully I managed to keep off the job.

All finished off with a stunning sunset and a glass of Wine with Mrs Dubs

What? you weren't thinking I was going to post a picture of Mrs Dubs were you??? More than my lifes worth that...

Weather's been nice again this weekend so along with the work on Modzart i've managed to get the first few top coats onto the monitor.

I'm using a Plastikote "Metallic Black" paint. It was one I was originally thinking of using for the Modzart case but went for Matte black instead, so just using up the can.

I have to say I'm actually quite taken with the colour after all.

Flipped over to top coat the front of the bezel

On goes the top coat.

The photos don't really do the metallic Black justice, It's really quite nice. Essentially high gloss black with metallic monocromatic particles (as in not multi rainbow flipping coloured)

Still a few more coats to go but you get the idea.

Well all done.

Gotta be the shortest Mod I've ever done. Most of my Mods are measured in ice ages!!!

Masking tape came off real nice, and the screen was fine aside from the fingerprints that were there before.

So here you go guys.

Love to know what you think. Worthwhile???

In it's new home, and yeah it works fine.

Cheers for the feedback.

Vents at the back are fine, It was a concern, and part of the reason I did the mod was to see if would be an issue. Essentially the fins are to let out heat more than let in air so immediatly behind the fins is another layer of steel with very small perforations in it. Having inspected this layer after the painting hardly any paint has penetrated through.
