Mobo for new build ( help )

Ok so first off I hate that my first oc3d post is going to be so trivial . That being said I'm at the beginning of a build . The exact specs are scketchy as of yet but the basic Idea is A lian li full tower ( modded ) with most likely an ivy bridge cpu . gtx 680's x 2 , a full custom water loop etc . etc. . So the big question comes down to aesthetics ( sadly ) The overall color scheme is to be black and orange and I'm having trouble finding a mobo too fit the criteria .... So any ideas would be appreciated .... the rig is primarily for gamming btw .. Thanx all in advance

Only z77 motherboard I could find with orange is Biostar TZ77XE4 Details - Intel z77 Motherboards.

I would go with a Sabertooth , its the blakest of all z77 boards , correct me if im wrong

Aesthetics do count. For some of us its an important priority like for people that own show cars. I suppose the question is do you want to sacrifice some slight performance things for looks or the other way around. For example you may really like the look of a board that lots of people have problems with or one that does not overclock as well. It might be just as good for you as any board or it might not. I also wonder does it have to be orange and black? would red and black work for you as there are many more choices in that color combo. It certainly would be a strikingly unusual color combo to have orange and black but your choices will be limited.

IMHO I would not go with the biostar mobo, I would try to find an all black motherboard and use that. As it was stated up top Asrock has some nice all black motherboards like the Asrock Z77 Extreme6. I would even think about going with the sabertooth but the only thing that will be showing brown would be the northbridge heatsink, but I do not think it would look to bad with the black and orange theme you are doing. Good luck with the decision!

Good point ... I'll will definately sacrifice aesthetics for performence .. I like the color scheme but at the end of the day I cant justify buying a " lemon " mobo to put in a $$$$ system . So i guess an all black mobo may have to do and perhaps some detail painting on non-sensitive area's . That being said ..any ideas on black mobos for an ivybridge / gamming / watercooled rig ?

Are you planning on watercooling the board?

[sub]The z77 Idea might work nicely though the " big cheese " didnt seem overly enthused with the board in his review . I'm up in the air at this point on watercooling the board .. seems there's alot of contradicting opinions out there on whether theres any benifit to it .[/sub]

That was in response to the" am I watercooling the board " question from SEBAR ... At this point I guess I'll end up including everything in the loop as my planned build includes two rx 360's and an rx 240 .. any thotts on that appreciated as well but I think I'm set on that particular.

In that case take a look at the Gigabyte UD5 boards. They have black PCB and blue heat sinks, which will be removed when you install your water blocks. I don't think there is much selection on the market now but there should be some nice water blocks coming soon.

I already have the lian li case and am nearly finished with the bottom mounted enclosure for the two rx 360's . I do like the looks of the GA-X79-UD7 .... decisions decisions ... also just painting the parts that dont match is looking like an easy fix that I ( embarrassingly ) didnt think of previously >>>>

strip the anodizing and re-dye or paint.. pci socket covers (fab a cover and paint)

ram sinks, paint, whats not matching, other than that, spend till you cant no more..

airdeano

I've been considering that of late . It just seems like a crime to paint over all that black anodized aluminium even though it would pull everything together in terms of aesthetics .. At this point I'm planning on painting the interior frame black and the hdd rack ( front and rear ) and the mobo tray orange . Also a large bolt on style window .. Wish I knew how to use sketchup or the like so I good better illustrate my plan ...
