my asus z68 pro cant find my WD 1TB hard drive. i have it plugged in to the sata 2 on the mobo and i plugged in the sata power too. The mobo finds my ssd(which is plugged into the sata 3)but not my hard drive. what is out with my computer?

Try another sata cable for the hdd to remove that as a possible fault. Then make sure the hdd is powering up, if you put your hand on it, you should feel it vibrate slightly or you should be able to hear it. (don't put your fingers on the pcb disk controller though).

sataII cables will not work in some sataIII ports (even when a sataII device is attached)... use a sataIII cable (normally white), and see if that works

have you tried in IDE, AHCI and RAID mode?

as you have such a more or less brand new motherboard you may want to get the BIOS up to date before trying anything else.

I would suggest remounting your motherboard as it could be shorting somewhere underneath but as its detecting the ssd I am not so sure. Also, any other computers you can test the hdd in?

Blow into all connectors/ connections to make sure dust is not the problem then ensure you have the latest drivers via the motherboard disk loaded as you install Windows if that's what you're trying to do.

How old are the components btw?
