I have a nice mobile A64 3400 which runs sweet on water, but i want to give this set up to my younger brother, but minus the watercooling. I was wondering if anyone knew which heat sink would fit perfectly on the mobile A64.

Yeah thats right, these cpu dont ahve the IHS they are naked with jsut the core showing, i dont think the normal HS fit cos of the size difference, i knew the old thermalright slk948U would fit but they are no longer made (these was a screw down HS with a backplate so was ok), and the new ones dont say nothing was hoping soemone here had a air cooled system...

Becasue teh core is exposed I would stick with a lighter (but effective cooler) and that for me would have to be the vapochill micro.

I've used a Turion 2800 Mobile (1.6ghz at 2.7ghz) which come without the IHS like yours, its pretty easy to modify the retention bracket so it will fit any cooler. I used the stock A64 cooler, you have to sand down the bits of the front bracket which come into contact with the motherboard, this was 4 protruding little plastic cones. If you take off a couple of mm's and keep it flat then you can fit any cooler via the normal means with good contact.

What timescale are you looking at? I am probably going to be replacing my mobo in the next couple of weeks at which point I *should* have an slk948u 'spare' as I will be going for the xp-120 instead.

If that is any good, let me know and you can have first refusal.

Rica that would perfect if you could i would take it for sure, i also have a time scale of a few weeks so can wait np.

(ps the SLK948U was the 754 copper version that was screw down right, hope i havent got numbers mixed with the old Abit Nf7-S version ><)
