Anyone use Mirc, I am interested in it and would like to know how to use it, and its pros and cons as well.

It will eventually be used at work so i need to learn it either way.

mIRC has more functions and is generally better written afaik, Xchat is far far better for general use (talking to others) and alot easier to set up

What exactly do you need to know?

Open it up, then type "/server irc.quakenet.org", then "/join #overclock3d", and we can go from there :).

#hexus.cs is also a fun place too.

Thanks for the replies guys, I am expecting to use it at work where a screen is projected on a wall showing the conversations, and updates to various topics can be displayed as they happen.

how do you think this will work in principle or will it be a waste of time

mmh , see if i can add a better explanation by means of an analogy.

Imagine we are all playing counterstrike for a big clan, and are all in different locations or "headquarters" Team speak is not working but we have setup a projector at each location where someone is monitoring play and is updating the events using Mirc so that all those logged in can see the updates as they happen.

e.g "terrorist seen at bombsite A with Sniper rifle"

all other team members would see this straight away and could formulate a plan of action and send that a s a response. eg " a and b use smoke - c and d flash bang, e f and g rush etc. start in 1 min .

That is the idea behind it.

I havn't really been keeping up with this thread but in my experiance gameing + two screens to keep an eye on + typing messages = big disaster...

Also, I'm not sure how that could help, unless it includes the other teams team chat, which could involve them saying where they're going to rush and what next rounds tactics are going to be. Which is pretty dodgy anyway if you ask me...

so your whole plan revolves around what we would do if "teamspeak is not working"?

if that is the case, we just steal hexus Teamspeak :)

I think it is time to close this thread as it is already being used, I was just keen to learn before i need to use it.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
