MiniValidus - Work Log

I don't think it will be so bad, you have 2x240mm rad's and relatively low TDP CPU+GPU, I really can't wait to see how it is in the end :D

5820k in this, that's 140w TDP, not that low :P
If a GTX990 comes out i'm jumping on that so bad.

Really, I know this is far from the ideal configuration and there will bad airflow and inductive heat from the blocks and all that stuff. It was an experiment in the end. Really if it keeps GPU and CPU under 70 at load, and does it quietly then that is acceptable for me, though I believe it will do better than that...

Shame on me I completely forgot this was s2011-3, yup certainly not so low :D

Well whatever the future I look forward to seeing how it holds up, these Ncase M1's sure are purty :)

So time to tackle another niggle.

If you're familiar with the ASRock X99E-ITX you know it doesn't use the standard 2011(2011-3) mounting pattern which is 90x90mm, instead it uses a slim ILM mount usually found in servers, that's 100x75mm.

Because of this I had to modify the standard mounting hardware that came with the Kelvin S24. I thought I could get away with using the AMD mounting hardware which to my eye looks like its drilled for 100mmx70mm, so close, just enough to be a pain in the ass.

Having no issues with cutting up the AMD mounts I cut out the sides of the mount and then just used some aluminium plate across the top. Simple, but we don't need to make it more complicated than it has to be...

It's not pretty at the moment, (and I actually got it so hot while cutting it melted the paint on the stock bracket and imprinted into my plastic table) but a bit of black rattlecan should have it blending in nicely, also I think a decent job for a dremel and hand file.

Build is spot on! Im doing a watercooled system on my ITX rig and ive got double the space you have and im still finding it a nightmare!

Pulled out the rattlecan to touch up some of the work i've been doing.

First up was the radiator, unfortunately so much work has knocked the fins around a bit but nothing you'll see when it's all together. I might still throw some paint over the fins yet.

The modified AMD CPU mount got the same treatment.

I also put the EK heatspreaders on the memory, gee they look good...

Waiting 1 delivery and then I should almost be ready to power this thing back up. Fingers crossed it posts...

Oh some glams with the dimms populated :)

That is one packed build! I love it, shame the res (?) had to go on the outside :(

I guess so, but its purpose built like that for the NCASE by FrozenQ.

Looking now I have the side radiator mounted up I could probably mount a Microres above the CPU if I wanted. I might have a closer look at that.

Not much of an update but...

Here we have 2 acrylic tubes and 1 PETG tube. You can tell the difference between PETG and Acrylic, the PETG looks much cloudier to my eyes but people say its a lot easier to work with...

Notice anything?

How about now?

HOW ABOUT NOW!?

I was worred the UV would have that bluish tinge through it that you see sometimes but in all honesty, you can't tell at all unless you're looking at a cut edge the natural UV gives it a slight hue.

Should look great with my UV Mayhems.

Well well well... what happened?

Essentially I couldnt get all the pieces to fit the way I wanted, it was crowded and it was dirty and after everything, I still wouldnt have been able to get the side panel back on because of my choice in the Strix 980 GPU so, out it all came.

So all the watercooling was pulled as discussed, I ordered a NH-C14, asked Noctua for a slim ILM mount and after being berated about how they don't support it with this cooler, sent it anyway.

When it arrived the box for the cooler, was almost as big as my case itself.

It sure didnt look like it was going to fit but i'd seen examples of this cooler, in this case, on this board so it had to...

...ta-da!!!!!!! what a bitch that was.

Building a super small x99 build was a great concept when I thought of it but this build has been an effort every step of the way.

Here's the sucker, the GPU power sticks out like a sore thumb,. but cast your eyes lower and you see the heat pipe which was the only thing stopping me getting the side panel back on this case.

Because of it's non reference nature it also meant even switching it to water, no matter which variation of the waterblock I used, i'd never get the side panel back on.

And final glam, really dig this photo.

Whats next? Well, the 980 STRIX has been sold, for maximum return until Pascal releases. Then it will be something reference and the side panel will go on. And i'll love.

The C14 does a great job, super quiet and running a 4.2ghz OC with peak temps of 65degrees C.

I have 2 more builds that I need to start, I learnt a lot from this build and while I can't say it was a success, it wasn't a failure to me either.

I hope you enjoyed this build. Some more photo's with new GPU and lighting to come

Needs a dual GPU card :D
I was interested in the new AMD dual GPU card, kinda satill am, but 3x 8pin!?
Its not a simple solution as I have a SFX SPU I only have 1 PCI-E out. That means getting a custom cable made up with 3x 8pins, which im a bit iffy about. Or use a 2x8pin and then get another 8pin made off a peripheral output, again, iffy...

Black fan

umm, correct! but you win no prizes.
