Midnight Smurf: Watercooled Edition

those sure are purdieee...
a lot of the reviewers let the cat out of the bag on thier reviews on more colors to come.
Tom did as well. red, white, and blue were the colors i heard are slated... no NVidia green
or orange..

as soon as i get my corsair link up and running, the data and lighting should also be controlable.

id hold out till then.. sexy lighting on the RAM is wiorth holding out.. Tom's ORCA build will be
mega-epic with the white LEDs in the RAM.
im trying for the 32GB set for a crunching RAMDISK setup for my Vegas and Premier. works well
with 16GB.. need more RAM!! and four lil sparklers will fill the need, thank you very much!

32 gigs of Platinum... You better keep saving :p

After a little more research it looks light Corsair won't be making more models of the Platinum, but just be releasing different color "light bars" that are of course sold separately and you have to install yourself. I guess this helps people who already bought Platinum in white, but it just adds to the already high cost.

Looking great... I like the lighting efect on the board...
Instead of waiting for the blue platinium, could it be possible to paint the one you have, or will it affect the cooling?

I currently don't have Platinums, just some G-Skill Ares stuff which looks good in its own right, but it's not Corsair. Even if I did have the Platinum though, I wouldn't let paint anywhere near it :)

Got my angled fittings in today, which means it's time to start routing some tubing! Sorry, but I forgot to take pictures along the way so I really only have pictures of it being done. Whoops!

Picture of the CPU block, I used two 45's to go up to the rad and over to the pump.

Did something tricky with the block to rad tubing, put it out of sight:

Looks like I'm ready to leak test...

Filling up the res:

You probably can't tell, but the water is flowing here. So far so good, nothing leaking (knock on wood).

The res, took almost a full liter to fill this loop! I only have two liters, so I'm hoping I don't need to order more.

So that's where I'm at, the finish line draws nearer. I'm going to let this run for a couple hours to make sure no leaks develop, then empty it out as this was only to flush everything and get it clean. I'm waiting for a new biocide, as I've heard silver + water leads to plasticizer leaching in these tubes. Next update you see I'll probably be done!

thin mount rads in a CPU loop and not a lot of hose is usually a bit less than 1-liter again
depending on hose length. interesting angle on the radiator discharge to CPU block. i was
always trying to use snake rotaries and dual/dual rotaries for that connection. never dawned
me just two 90° can achive the same goal... duhh!
are you still going to slide the bayres out for filling and servicing or make the connection from
the top with a fill port? using a remote fill port can be easier to use and less destructive so as
not to be undoing the bay res so much. u se a coffee stirier to vent as i fill so not back wash
when filling...

PS its looking good!

Thanks airdeano, I'm liking the look of it so far too. I'm not really sure what to do with the bay res as I want to put it in the top two 5.25" bays and can't figure out a way to get to the fill port short of drilling a hole in the top of the case. Also, what do you mean by use a coffee stirrer to vent?

PS: Dang I really gotta get this finished up since I'm losing my position on the folding team!

Quick update but no pics, just gonna say what's going on. Leak tests went A OK, let it run for a couple hours and no drips drops or anything. So I disassembled one tube to get all the water out as I just wanted to run clean distilled through it first in order to loosen up all the stuff from the factory and hopefully get it out of there. I was able to disconnect a tube and drain all of the water without spilling a drop on any of the components, something I was very nervous of even though there is no power going through anything. Once it was empty I put everything back together and have covered it up with a couple towels to keep out the light and keep algae from growing in the little bit of water left until I can get the biocide I'm waiting for and fill it up for good.

Also, I've decided to move the res to the 2nd and 3rd slots in the front instead of 1st and second as this way I can fill the res without pulling it out of the front and it looks pretty good there too, I'd say even better than before. I've also ordered two XSPC H1 slot covers as this way everything will just blend better.

Overall everything has been going really well considering this is my first loop ever. Hopefully I can keep it that way! Only a couple more days and it should be done.

..what do you mean by use a coffee stirrer to vent?

the hollow stirrer allows air to come out as fluid is introduced into the fill port.
ive seen some jacking mass amounts of coolant down a small tube and it takes
forever to work down, becasue the air pressure in the res will not allow the coolant
to pass, until the weight of the coolant overcomes the air pressure in the res.
the stirrer allow it to "vent" making less spillage and mess.

Don't want to drill a hole in the top of my case though... It would work since the 650D has the top cover thing but the way I have it rigged now works pretty well.

Edit: I do remember seeing somewhere though (I think in one of Tom's builds) where they put a 90 degree rotary fitting in the fillport, then put a couple inches of tubing leading off of that and just filled it that way, then tucked it away when it was full. I'll try and find what I'm talking about.

Edit again: Found it, it's this video right around 2:55.

Thanks! Just ordered some carbon fiber film, gonna see what I can do with it. NO MORE ORDERS THOUGH! I've spent enough money on this already...
