Microsoft's Hard Stance Against Vista Piracy

I know as hardware buyers, the majority of u guyz technically qualify for purchasing of u`r own OEM versions, IF bought at the same time as certain items. Core items to a pc I believe. @ something in the region of ~£50 for a "student" version, even if u`r not a student (is that morally right in itself), is not a bad price - real big shame the outlay for the OS when it came out wasn`t in the same region. Also, I believe u should be able to buy it and apply it to all u`r pcs, and every pc u make for yourself - how they govern that ? well that`s thier problem.

Visa will try to be sold for anything upto, or over, 4 times that and there lies u`r problem.

U can purchase a "full OEM" when u buy something like a HD and/or DVD - something silly like that. Prob cost u ~£75.

BUT - and here`s the thing, if u keep reinstalling it, I think it will allow u something stupid like 2 or 3 times within 1 month or it locks the online registration. So u have to phone m$ and tell them u`r reinstalling on the same pc, and if they chose to believe u they`ll reset it - but another 2 or 3 times and it`ll lock.

I`m a firm believer in, I buy the product, I can use it, put it on my shelf and be able to use it again whenever I want. If I chose to put it on the 4 pcs I have at home, that should be up to me, I shouldn`t have to buy 4 copies in order to do so (u can get away with 2).

Now they understandably don`t want me to install it on m8y`s pc - fine, I agree - but find a way to stop me other than effing me about. If u`r making me pay stoopid money for the damn thing, I want to use it how I want to for myself.- it`s mine.

the oem version comes in at alittle over 114£

students gets 36£ off but have to pay full price to then get a refund.

but at the end of the day, your buying a lisence to use a bit of software. its the license that costs the money and the media is a fraction of the cost.

I mean, would software developers not loose a hell of a lot of money, if they let you buy it once, and then install it on what ever you want. i cannot think of any software developer that does allow this. So i think your gripe is with software house's etc. not just microsoft.

As regards to activation, if it fails on the internet activation, then you have to phone there automated system, type in the long ass digits. wait for the automated system to say "sorry, we cannot verify your code, please speak to the next avaible cfr" at this point you get transfered to a call centre far far away and have to read your numbers out again.

Once your product key has been activated so many times, you'll get a message saying "are records show that the product key has been activated too many times" or something like that. at which point your gonna have to ring the toll free number and argue the

. Dont know if they will allow you to install using the same key again. Suppose this is so if a product key gets leaked onto the net, they dont have millions of people using the key.

but each key only works for one disk, spose its if an iso of the disk with the key is put on the net

each key doesnt work just for one disk. there are 3 types of keys and media.

OEM

Corperate

Retail

So long as oem keys match oem media and etc........ it should be fine.

Yeah but they can make it a right royal pita to own it. I welcome the anti-piracy implimentations...good on them, they have a right to protect what's legally theirs.
