Microsoft's Hard Stance Against Vista Piracy

Does Window's Genuine Advantage bother you? Well, get ready for the new anti-piracy controls that Microsoft has incorporated into Vista. Do you think being limited to a browser for an hour at a time is a little harsh if you're using pirated software? Feel free to comment below...

#Note: OC3D Forum has a zero tolerance to talk of warez and pirated software. If you feel the need to state your arguement for pirated software, and why you think it's ok....don't! (you have been warned)

someone will probably make mince meat of it tbh

i am quite happy with xp tho,it does what its meant to do(albeit not most efficeintly)

cheers.

We don`t talk about cracks on here, but I`ll just say 1 will be out days before Visa hits the streets.

How dumb r they to think anything they do control wize isn`t going to be counter acted ? Better software companies than m$ try thier best and fail.

And it would seem that the steps they`re walking are harming `genuine` users - how dull is that ?

who said "nobody will be able to crack it" wasnt microsoft for sure. Is it not common sense that if a human creates a copy protection, then a human can break it.

I actually hope this works, My windows is fully legit and my vista will be aswell and for anyone who cant be bothered to pay around £100 for the most important software on their pc then they deserve no more than an hour :D

Ofcourse someone will crack it but the harder ms makes it the better I say :)

Like Hyper, I had to pay for a licence, so why shouldn't everyone else?

The only caveat I would make to that, is for Education - I think Microsoft should make some large concessions with the terms of the licencing agreements for Schools/Colleges and the like.

lets hope they get it right this time,i bought xp a couple of months ago(i had used a pirated copy before)and i was annoyed by the WGA because it locked me out because i had a non gen copy of xp!

not bad considering i had the box and the manual at the side of me!!

it took an hour of phone calls to microsoft to sort it out

I know my OEM is legit, I bought it at the same time I bought my components, when I did my new build last year. The machine I'm using now has got Win98 on, but I haven't done any updates since they started piddling about with WGA, and since reading the fact that I could incur a £45 charge for phoning them if it fails.

What M$ need to do is to do away with OEM. I believe that's where the problem lies. You buy a pre-built PC, it comes with a boxed retail version of XP/Vista and the installed O/S is from that disc. All you have to do then is activate it when you get home. When you sell the PC on, the O/S and discs go with it to the new owners, who then have to re-activate/notify M$ of the change of ownership.

There's too many re-sellers selling on OEM discs that have come from broken down office machines, the majority of these have already been activated on other hardware so they're falling on their backs when the new owners try to activate them.

Just my little opinion:D

Urban Myth - I phoned up and it was done in about 10 mins.

Why? that just means it costs more for us that don't ever use Microsoft's support network?

That last one is a breach of the terms of the licence agreement - so the seller is in the wrong. I would never buy OEM software apart from when purchased from a reputable retailer - ie not Ebay.

They already make it pretty cheap, our company are autherised education resellers. i think (dont quote me on this) a copy of server 2003 with 5 cals is only £90 for education.

well, far from everyone can afford to buy xp today.

for example for a student the price is ridicoulosly high, the pricetag is actually so high so for some students its the same as 4 months of food so i understand why some people chose to use a illegal copy but i understand even more why some chose to use an illegal copy today and buy a legal copy when they have finished school and started to work and earn money.

not everyone have 190£ :/

Most uni's have an MSDN license, so should be able to give students stuff like XP for free...

i have heard about the studentlicense many times but NEVER from anyone within my country so im not so sure it exists here.

students in general have very few areas they can get things cheaper than the rest of the population.

masstransportation is the only area i can say ffor sure.
