Yeah was going to play some Guitar Hero then.. didn't turn on just straight to RoD.

Bet it was one of those... Aaahhhhh it'll never happen to me things, and then it did.

That'll teach ya... What it'll teach ya I dunno.

Awwh Brooksie. :(

You jinxed yourself... can't find it at the thread.. but I swear you said something like "Mine had yet to break".. :(

Sucks eh? It will be fine... they will fix it for free.

Nah never said anything like that :p

Was looking on youtube on how to fix it but that can make it worse if wrong. And worse of all, warrenty has run out so its gonna cost £60 :( But I think I get a £3 discount (YES! £3) for being a Live member (which costs £40 a year)

It's probably the crappy plastic they use to keep it in.

Have you tried it a few times? Ages ago someone posted how to fix it.

You need to melt the chip back into place, something like that.

from what I have read its down to the fact the thing just gets too hot and warps the board, also the fan is not running at full speed

Noisy console as it is. Need to find that thread.

Wrap it in Towels for 20mins.

It never fails!

As for the warranty, when did you buy it because they have a 3 year warranty for the RROD.

I bought it in 2006..

I might have to try that towel method.. Just so I can get a bit of GTA gaming in :)

My console is quite quiet.. Probably meaning fans not running at full speed > console overheating > ROD

My 360 has just had the m/b replaced for free as it had the 3 segment 'rod' that the extension to the warranty applies for.

The xbox live website has all the details and a freephone number to call. Check the psu as suggested by the website and try refitting the vga and power cables (got another 2 weeks out of mine by doing that!)

They email you a UPS link for free postage to Havant, so as you're in Hants it may be simpler to drop it off if it's nearby.

Took 2 weeks for mine, it was completely free and even included another month's xbox live subs. MS are clearly looking to keep users as happy as possible and now the XP statement, good on you MS (cough).

that'll teach him to buy an inferior console :p

seriously though

still under warenty from microsoft?

NEVER WRAP IT IN TOWELS!! Youll warp your board more and damage other things. It will make your 360 work for a bit longer but your just damaging it even more.

Also anybody who has a 360 got a new 3 year warranty on it from M$.

http://www.xbox.com/en-us/support/systemsetup/xbox360/resources/warrantyupdate.htm

Also if you really want to do it yourself you need to do the 12v fan mod and do the X-Clamp mod. Its what i did and i played Halo3 for 3 horus and 45 minutes straight (Beat it all the way through first try on normal) and not a problem.

Just whatever you do DONT DO THE TOWEL TRICK. Seriously, would you wrap your PC in towels and let it cook for 20 minutes? No! THe 360 overheats worse than Prescott with stock cooling in the summer heat. SO its even worse than wrapping your PC up in towels.

I am glad you posted PP as I could not see the logic (still can't) of wrapping it in towels.

I only have the normal Xbox, which has been sound for years, hope you get your problem sorted mate.

Ill be honest yes it does work but only becasue your warping the board more. Once it warps back from playing your back to square one again. If you keep doing it youll eventualy either short something or warp it so the contacts wont meet anymore. What i did to my best friends 360 was i did the X-Clamp mod and 12v fan mod. THey are both really simple and take minimal pieces to accomplish. Then i unplugged the fan and let it give me the 2 ring. Thats the overheat one to let it reset. Then once i was turned it off and back on again it was fine. Turned it back off to completely cool then played Halo3 (for the first time) from start to finish in one sitting and never had a problem with it.
