Microsoft take Windows EULA to a new level* with Vista

* of stupidity.

Yep, Microsoft are taking the **** this time, they're saying that you can only upgrade your motherboard once, without needing to buy a new license. While this is currently true for XP Oem, they're stupidly extending this policy to retail Vista as well, which is going to do nothing but increase piracy, when you consider vista license prices.

Vista Ultimate License from MS (See section 15)

yeah heard about this and showed a few people, was gonna post it on the frontpage.

seems stupid for people like us who are constantly upgrading.

If that turns out to be the case then I for one will off down to my local car-boot sale.

Why does such an obscenely wealthy company have to treat its loyal followers with such contempt ?

Sorry - did I say "Loyal followers"? - I meant the entire Windows using world.

How you think they got so wealthy!!! :P This does truly suck, does anyone know if its on each retail version? They might miss it from the ultimate edition?

Heard about this yesterday but didn't want to be the one to bring you the bad news. Which it definitely is.

Having been through three flaky motherboards in the last year I am not happy with this

The only good thing about Vista is that when your activation fails, unlike XP, it looks like you will at least be able to log in and retrieve your data.

I still don't see why I should give up XP for Vista.

I think it's time to try AmigaOS again. :) Use the graphics coprocessor to draw the Windows? How 1985. :)

The main problem in my opinion is that there is no major competition for Microsoft so they can do what ever they want.

prefer 1993 myself, A1200 with a 50mhz mc68rc030 and a 68882 fpu :D

talk about stupid move, will only encourage piracy even more espically with the prices they have.

WOW!! Raven. You had the same as me:D Still got all mine, and it still works;)

The O/S only took up 10meg of HD space.

If they made Linux easier to use I think that would give M$ something to worry about. They need to make it easier to install drivers and such. Fund a bit of game development and "Robert's yer fathers brother";)

how did you manage that ?

only the libraries took up over 14mb for me in the end, the workbench installation was well over 5 years old when i traded away the amiga for a 256mb pc133 and a ata100 tx2 idecontroller card.

i wonder how long time it will take before there will come something to replace windows that isnt linux.

if someone programmed it and priced it at 20% of what ms takes they could make gold.

Meh ppc still works with an 040 @ 25 !!! and a bvision piggy-backed on it.

Got an 030 @ 50 in the original box :o

Funny how I used to scrape around for 64/96m.. and now I got masses of memory about the place in crappy pentium and k7s >.<

The good thing that we can thank M$ for is the current prices for the hardware. If Windoze didn't need such high specs, I think we'd be paying an arm and a leg for things like hard-drives and RAM.

I remember paying £125 for a 512k memory card for my A500 back in 1988-9:eek:

I paid £399 for a Microbotix MBX1230 50Mhz 030/50Mhz FPU with 8Mb of RAM and £60 for an 80Mb HD for the A1200 back in 1993:eek:

Then I lost it completely and started ferckin' about with PCs:rolleyes:

I h8 to say it Mick, but who ever got £399 off u for the 030 saw u coming >.< In the 90s I was buying 2nd hand 500s for £50 with all their kit, and 2nd hand 4000s were going for around £400 with extras.

I payed substancially less that that for the ppc card.

To be fair the equiv of the high prices back then are kept up with emerging technology now, cept u can buy lesser rated versions of stuff, just look @ the processors as they come out. Arguably u were able to buy 030/25 processor expansions for less than the 50 ones.

I personally wouldn`t acredit m$ with either keeping prices down or helping technology along.

I don`t know that running windo$e on a G4 processor wouldn`t be a better idea, all things being equal. Or whether windo$e is better or more efficient than MacOS or even AmigaOS or Linux, it just demands more support and is stuck in a rutt of catch22 - and is holding technology back to an extent. Then u`r in the arguement of x86 vS 68k, to which we`ve all lost out.
