METRO 2033 + AMD

i just want to know if anyone on this forum has done some extensive research on the topic of Metro not working well on ATi or Radeon cards. i have a 5870 lightning ii 990 core and 1300 memory and every 5 to 10 minutes metro 2033 crashes to a black screen which requires a reboot. now i was thinking that it was my video card being clocked to high but i have been running lots off really demanding applications and all are running fine. i have had kombuster running for about 45 min now and no crash, i have ran the Unigen bench a couple of times with all settings maxed with no crash. my temps never get above 70c. i do not want to here the answer "lower your clocks" because i know the clocks are perfectly stable running even more demanding applications. does anyone know of a hotfix or a fix of some sort, i am also using 10.10 drivers and no PPU. metro 2033 is the ONLY application that i have that crashes. oh and i reinstalled metro a number of times.

each game is different and they run harder than most apps

i can be haven stable and game stable (cod,BF,AC) but when i try and fold BOOOM BSOD

you see

so even tho you have just said dont say lower your clocks

would it hurt to try just nock some MHZ of n see if it runs if not,pop em back up and re-install the game

see i dont want to have to deal with the hassle of lowering clocks every time i want to play metro. i understand that most apps are different but that doesn't explain the crash on METRO only. that just sounds like terrible coding. and i know for a fact THQ has a long track record when it comes to creating unstable games. in all my years of coding if there was an app created and it crashed and all the other ones didn't that meant the app was codded poorly.

not to mention you are trying to fold on an AMD gpu, those crashed a very common in the AMD community.

Play METRO on my 5870 with no issues what so ever matey.

Is it a certain place it craps out on you?

does event viewer tell up anything both in CC or Windows

yes it crashes right when i am leaving the market to get to the outside for the first time.

do any of you think this could be AVG related. i know when i play crysis i cant change any of the setting unless i disable AVG.

hmm ill see if theres any glitches at that point for me will let you know tomorrow... gotta get my beauty sleep

I can safely say that Metro 2033 on ATI sucks bums. HARD.

My 470 eats it alive where as my Crossfired 5770s ran like dog poo in treacle.

I wouldn't sweat it any way it's a sh*t game.

yea mt GTX 470 sli does great with this game. and i beat metro before i didnt think it was all bad. the ending was a little dry but it had its moment. the biggest killer for me though is that the gameplay freezes sometimes and lags. this game ONLY runs good with physx though, i have to install a physx card and my FPS will just a good 20. also i forgot to mention my game only crashes without the physx card. i dont know if that coincidental but it is odd.

see i wish i could find out whether it was a driver crash or an engine crash because my screen just goes black with a restart being the only option.

Metro felt a bit limp. Gunfire felt incredibly weak and I just stood there unloading bullets into things waiting for them to die.

Borderlands was similar.

It's because I've played Fallout 3. So any other RPG just pales in comparisson

i wouldn't really call Metro a RPG.

Well it's got a few elements RPG, SHooter,Horror, action.

Not a bad mixture. Reminds me of dragonage & stalker.

that alone doesnt really make an RPG. an RPG for one needs the ability to back track, as well as to customize and do what you want in the limits of the world that was set. the old metroid games were more of an RPG

They marketted it as an RPG.

then they are idiots. i see no RPG element in this game. no customization, straight foreword storyline, no back tracking, no side quests, no character building (as in leveling and relationships). these elements are all needed in order to create an RPG or at least 3 of them. Metro has non of them.

a little off topic but Oblivion is the BEST RPG and one of the BEST games EVER CREATED. PURE FACT about the best RPG part!

I would love Oblivion if the subject matter interested me.

Sadly it doesn't. I just can't do the whole fantasy thing.

Mine is Fallout. I have a morbid fascination with nuked things

fallout is sort of a fantasy. but you have to admit Oblivion is just one of the most solid RPGs ever created if not the most solid. it just needs to be reoptomized for the new video cards. also the modding you can do in oblivion is limitless. the oblivion mod site has hundreds of thousands of mods ranging from weapons to story lines.

I believe true RPG's are that of Diablo... Neverwinter nights etc... to me thats wat an rpg is. And the ability to party up with other players online
