Hey guys

This is doing my head in. I am having an issue with my memory stick. The problem is my memory stick is not showing up on my desktop pc. When I plug it in I get that bu bu sound but it wont show in my computer or under disk management. I have tried installing the new usb drivers from the asus website, I have tried the different usb ports on my pc, I have tried changing drive letters etc. Still no joy, the memory stick however works fine on other pcs and laptops just not my home desktop.

I am running windows 7 64 bit. Any help would save me loads of headaches transferring revit and cad files via email.

Cheers

Try this:
Make a back-up of anything important on the USB drive on another PC or external HDD. This will erase everything on there.

> Open CMD.exe as administrator
> Type 'Diskpart' (without the '' obviously)
> Type 'List disk'

See if your USB drive shows up there (look at the disk size).
If yes:

> Type 'select disk [number of disk]'
> Type 'clean'
> Type 'create primary partition'
> Type 'active'
> Type 'Format fs=fat32 quick'
> Type 'Assign'

If it worked correctly, Windows should now show you the generic 'What do you want to do?' menu with options like 'Autoplay' and 'Open as folder'.

Worth a shot.

Have you tried leaving it in the usb slot for a few minutes to see if it appears? I had an external hdd that would appear on my PC only after 5-10mins of being plugged in, never found out the reason for it but it would appear almost instantly on other pc's.

Do you have mounted network drives? At work we often had the problem that for some reason Windows wanted to give a usb stick the same drive letter as the mounted network drive.
Look under "disk management" (I am not sure if that's the correct term. My os is not in english.) and see if it shows up there and if you can asign a different drive letter if it does.

Left it in for a good 20 mins and nothing showed up

What kind of stick is it (USB 3, brand, size etc)?

It is just a generic memory stick I got when I started college. It is 4gb's and is usb 2

No network drives and I tried looking under the disk management and the only things in there are my pcs storage ie the 2 ssds and 1 hdd no memory stick. I thought it might be the drives letter so did try that but cannot see it under disk management to change it.

I did do a reinstall of windows recently. I did it the way I always do it so not sure if that messed it up but I didn't do anything I havn't done before and it used to work on this pc before the windows reinstall.

Have you tried sticking it in a USB 2.0 Port?

I have various issues with sticking memory devices into a USB 3 Port. It will make the bubu sound, but doesn't actually do anything. This sounds like it could be the case also.

Ya I have, I only ever really put it into the 2.0 ports. I have tried the 3.0 ports to test but none work.
