Memory Questions

hey, i just added some memory to my system, 2x512mb Kingston, adding to my 2x512mb micron. in everest, my write speeds were 5800 in everest memory test/benchmark. with all the ram in, it dropped down to 4000. any ideas? bad ram?

how do i check 1:1? where do i go.

mind u that i have an hp computer, and it dont say anything in the bios

Everst should tell you, Look for 'Memory Clock' or the like.

By your sig im gesussing you havn't overclocked?

Yea check CPU-Z, im sure your HP mobo will drop the speed to DDR333. Also, the 1t 2t timing thing suggested in the other thread.

Fine for running stock.

PS. Use OC3D uplaods, not imageshack. Im sure im not the only one who just loves fighting off 6billion pop-ups...

Hehe, IE at its best. :)

The channels saying dual on the right means your running dual channel.

Your running DDR400 speeds, but your timings are looser than the slut back in high school man. You cant change them can you?

Timmings make such little real world difference its not worth it. Sure it may give you that 100 point edge in a benchmark, but for anything else its not worth it.

My G.Skill ran at 2-2-3-7 at 200mhz, Running it at its 250 rating of 3-4-4-8 at 200 gave no difference in real world perfromance. Bumping the FSB up to 250 did the trick though:p...

But a new mobo would still be a good idea. If you'r gonna run stock ill let you know how the mobo im getting soonish to replace my deaded DFI fairs.

Memory timings do make a difference. It makes a difference in loading times ect. Its just like having a Raptor HD. Makes no difference to the average no Joe user, but for copying large files, and loading games that you use images on (IE Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% ect) it makes a big difference. I noticed BF2 loads alot faster than my friend who has DDR2 with real loose timings.

DDR2s basic clock is alot lower than DDR, enless hes falked out about £350.

And even then it could be a totaly different rig. hdd set-up & speed, obviously going to be a different CPU, un-defraged drive, graphics card memory will imppact game loading slightly, motherboard/chipset, all these things effect load times.

When i was messing about it was the same rig at different timmings, and it made no difference in anything i tried.

It was the same deal with my older PC and his older PC.

My older one

DFI Lanparty nF3 Ultra-D

Athlon64 3000+ (Newcastle??)

4x512 Kingston DDR333 2-2-2-5 (2T)

ATI Modded 9800XT

His

DFI Lanparty nF3 250gb

A64 3000+ (754)

2x1gig G.Skill value ram 3-3-3-8 1T

Leadtek 6800GT

My computer always whooped his at loading times and i configured them the same way, with the same 5.10 nForce drivers. Oh yea, we had the same 200gig Maxtor ATA133 HD too. Idk how that happend. It all depends on how you look at it. Some people think timings do alot, others dont. In old skool days memory timings meant everything, now i guess some people dont care cause of DDR2. He had DDR2 667 Corsair BTW.

Edit, now that i think about it, it could be cause mine was DC and he wasnt. But he had DDR400 and i didnt, so it balances it out sorta. Idk.

Sorry but those machines are still not identical.

939 has an IMC, 754 dosn't. Means phyisical distance for the signals to travel.

You are right in that better timmings will increase performance. My point is enless your sitting there with a 0.001s stopwatch you wont notice it.

ok thanks guys

it will make a diff, but not much i guess, depending on whats gong on

if i were to get a mobo, i would get it from this shop, canadacomputers.com

check the stock for the Mississauga Location

these ones look interesting:

or just do a cheap upgrade,

and just OC my cpu a bit, lets say 2.5ghz

would it be practicle?
