Memory Prob?

Hi all,

Is there a problem with OCZ PC4400 DDR EL Duel CH (Gold Ltd Edition) and the DFI N4 SLI-DR motherboard?

I have 2 x 512

Its just that when the computer crashes/freezes, it wont re-boot at all.

The monitor just stays on standby.

I have to keep jumping the Clear Bios on the motherboard.

CPU-z says BIOS is 6.00PG

Many Thanks.

Put one stick in first - then flash the BIOS to the latest edition direct from DFI Website www.dfi.com.tw.

Also teh default volts may be too low - go into BIOS and change volts to 2.7 or 2.8v.

There is a problem with some ram sticks, if that dont work re-flash with 623-2 BIOS.

Make sure you are using only the orange slots, can't remember which one works best for booting so try both with one stick only.

All should be well then ;)

I wouldn't blame the RAM really, as the motherboard is actually the picky one... I think that it's the only annoying thing I could find with the DFI SLI-DR, the fact that one set of RAM it may like, and another even identical set it will not! 8)

As Mav said, try it in different slots - usually they prefer one colour to another... (Orange I hear tend to be the better ones) IIRC DFI support say try one stick in the orange slot furthest away from the CPU. :)

The memory am using was really built to be used in i845 chipsets with hyperthreading.

Since i have now gone AMD, i think i should change my RAM

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks

It depends what you are looking at using the system for - it seems to be a battle between 2 x 512MB of BH-5 or 2 x 1GB of TCCD/ TCC5. It seems that the BH-5 is better for benching due to the 2-2-2-5 timings, especially if you can get it up to 260+ :)

Some folks say to use 2GB now as some games (Battlefield is one?) need it to run properly. It will also help for CAD programs. I'm still running 1GB, so I can't say from experience.
