Maximus ---> Rampage

Right, I am sure some of you know that the Maximus and the Rampage are pactically the same board other than the chipset.

Well, people have shown by a quick flash of the bios that the x38 and x48 are very much the same chip.

I have just now flash my Maximus Formula with the lastest Rampage bios allowing me to get at some hidden features high FSB and a some how keep a lower voltage.

Guide can be found here. Scroll down a little.

Enjoy! :)

I can tell you as a fact this is well worth it.

I have my qaud at 4100mhz with only 1.43volts. Not sure how mind you.

Also I am now able to get my ram to 1200mhz.

I am rather impressed.

This is a worthwhile mod to do, but be aware that this is a one way ticket... I don't believe u can flash back to the x38 bios afterwards.. In the case of an RMA this could prove troublesome..

I believe some distributors don't check bios as such, so if it is within the first few months you may be able to get a direct swap :)

Thats very impressive overclocking, the only thing holding me back is NB temps, myns at 50 degs atm... Does a new bios help that?

There is a way back now, so nothing to worry about. ;)

omg this is major coolio tox

erm, does it need to be a specific revision or not?

about to order my q6600 and maximus now :yumyum:

reps for you sir *tips hat in respect*

arg iv already repped u...ill have to do it after "spreading it around more"

Just grab any Rampage bios and you are off.

I am using 403 at the moment, brilliant. :)

Thanks for the attempted reps! ;)

After you are on rampage bios, can you update it as normal?

I haven't tried this yet, but I would have thought so as it would just see the rampage bios. Not sure how deep it checks.

But most likely only as deep as software.

cool

so latest rampage would work?

what advantages have u found and surely there will be bugs? as in tryin to turn stuff on that isnt actually there/supported?

Yep, it is totally safe. Only thing that can go wrong is if you get an error while flashing.

Everything on the Rampage is the same as the Maximus apart from the x48.

I think the main difference between the x38 and x48 other than die shrink is the bios.

So yeah this is awesome.

It is nice to boot your already high-end Maximus then flash and boot again to be greeted with a Rampage.

I now call my board the Maximus Rampage Formula. ;)

so easy to do then?

imma gonna have to do this come tuesday when my board supposedly should arrive :yumyum:

this is only the bios right? i mean, all the other asus software wont need to be for the rampage will it?

As said earlier the Maximus and the Rampage are almost the same. You can install the same chipset drivers, same RAID drivers and the same audio(if you use onboard).

Enjoy your Maximus 'Rampage' Formula :D

If you have any trouble either post here or MSN me.

is it stable? i wish i could do this with my p5nt-deluxe, dont know why i`m getting BSOD every 30 min when play games or watch movies(DEVICE_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) :( n-force 780i bonus:P
