Not many games know what to do with 8 threads let alone 32, i'm sure the reduction in clock speed would have a more significant negative effect than the increased thread count could make up for.

I have seen a few high core (8+) builds over the last couple of years, they generally fall on their ass for gaming performance. As JR said, most game engines barely take advantage of more than 4 cores so low clock speeds have a big impact and some games are a PITA to even get working.

At 4k my 8c 16t Ivy @ 2ghz performs no worse than my 3970x did @ 4.7ghz.

But yeah, lower resolutions and benches it really suffers from the derped clockspeed.
