Mach II with 821 firmware on Asus A8V

Good day all.

I recently purchased a Mach II GT (from a company in the states).

I had to update the firmware to 821 (it was stuck on the boot loading showing up on the LCD).

Now that the unit has had the firmware updated. I go to activate the unit and it says active but does not start to cool down.

Currently I have the A8V connected to a First Gen Prometeia (which I was going to give to my brother).

Anyhow any assistance would be very helpfull.

I also pointed the company I bought the unit from to the linked page your site has put up with the firmware and later version of the PCC and MCC software... I thank you and if the company that I bought it threw can uncork their head from their rear they would that you as well.

Recap

Mach II goes active but does not start to cool down. I did disconnect the usb after updating the firmware and will try it again shortly.

Thank you for your time

Hi there and welcome to my forum - I had this problem with my Sk8V. It's a little fiddly so bear with me whilst we go through this.

For some reason the Mach II GT seems to be in a constant power-up loop with certain FX boards and it will just not shut down. Try to follow this as best you can for a fix:

I had to physically power mine down via the mains and reconnect it to another machine - I then reconnected the mains and let it power up, then connected the USB to a working pc. I then flashed the firmware to 798 - this appears to resolve the immediate problem - the display resets, it displays the current temps and you can now access the software - all things ok at this point. I then shut the pc down (the one with the active usb connection) and let things settle to ambient for a few minutes. I then fired the pc back up (the one with the active usb connection) and the mach II started up as normal. I then reflashed the firmware back to 821 and shut it down again. Touch wood this has worked for the last two problematic GT's.

You need to try and follow that method precisely, if you fail to let the mach II shutdown of its own accord it appears to get locked in a loop.

Hope this helps.

I'm quite worried now as I have the ST version of the Mach II and have just bought a full new FX line up... my worry is that if this occurs with my setup.. i have no way of flashing the firmware as I have no USB connection on mine

Yeah dont worry mate, as I said over MSN tonight, it doesnt appear to effect Mach II's or ST models, only the GT's.

TC, I have a Mach 2 and my board works fine with the 821 firmware so the ST should have no problems as Phil said.

Good luck BtN hope u get it going.

No Joy in getting the unit up and running.

I've requested an RMA from the place I purchased it threw.

But I do plan on keeping the Socket 940/754/939 kit and the Lian Li Kit (as my old Prometeia has no issue's with the Asus A8V).

Oh I found out...

It is not a GT, its only a Mach II.

Anyone know of a place around Memphis, TN that can modify a First Gen Prometeia with the R404 cooling?

Currently cpu is run'n under load at default voltage and temps at -24 (2.4Ghz @ 1.5v).

The Asus A8V is a pain in the rump motherboard to Overclock with (as soon as Epox release's the 9NDA+ I'll be going back to my trusted motherboard company).

I do believe this is the first/last time I will purchase an Asus motherboard.

For so many people to give them such rave reviews I find the board just doesn't stack up to what is needed (much less expected from a high end board).

The Mach II is going back and the reseller can deal with the issue. I'm done with it, 2 weeks of emails and BS... it is not worth it to me. I have to deal with computer problems at work, I don't buy high end components to trouble shoot problems at home.

Thank you guys for your help though.
