Hey,

I'm new to this forum and to compressor cooling.

I'm buying a second hand Mach II (2-3 years old) , but there are some problems with it.

This is what the seller says about it:

That all the diode's ligth at once.

Every time his trying to connect the USB cabel in motherboard his PC freeze.

If he takes it out again it's going OK.

He have tried to start the PC up manually and it cool down to -49 degrees. Gas should be OK.

It's showing 0x0000 OK in the display and something with no boot.

So my question is: What could it be?

Thanks :)

Welcome to the forum :)

From what you have said, if there isn't a problem with the gas, it may just need a firmware flash. In which case you may get a bargain...

(There is a chance that there could be a problem with the USB cable itself - I have had a problem with one before)

However, the worse case scenario would be a new control board - which I believe Phil sells :D (That is if it doesn't have a leak!)

First of all thanks for the replies :)

How do I flash firmware for controller if the PC freezes when connecting USB cable?

What kind of USB cable is it? Special for Mach II and is it possible to buy a new one?

I thought the cable was standard issue internal USB - watch the wiring of the little bug*ers though, seriously do.

There is a thread not too long ago where I posted the colours, and where the wires should go...

Thanks :)

I found this in the manual:

All four diodes is lightin:

Error code 7: Cooling fault -The bimetal is open. To high condensation temperature.

Radiator and compressor-house temps to high?

The bimetal contact's open and power cutted to compressor?

Hmm that could be a sensor or it could be controller maybe send it in for a service get it all checked Actually first check make sure all the little plugs are plugged in tight

Fatty: Yeah, I also think it could be the bimetal sensor, maybe controller card or maybe the cooling inside the Mach II house. I'll refit all cables on controller/PC and make sure they are attached well.

Which firmware do I have to use for this old Mach II?

Ok, first I'm gonna try a firmware upgrade to 821, when it gets here.

Also I'm gonna try another USB cable.

Under transport, which parts are most sensible to bumps etc. or easy to destroy?

Should I leave the Mach for 12 hours before use?

Thanks :)

1. Which thermal paste is recommended for use with the Mach II:

For Opterons?

For XP CPU?

2. And what about the cold bug?

I'm planning to use a DFI NF4 Ultra-D and a Opteron 146 CABYE 0540 FPBW with the Mach II.

3. Which PSU do you guys recommend?

1:- Ceramique

2:- Cold bug shouldn't be a problem till -45c core temp or lower - so no.

3:- Best of the best is PCP&C, OCZ Powerstream would do.

I dunno i've seen people over at XS have a cold bug much earlier than that on Opty's people can't use their mach 2's of vapo ls's

One guy was using Dry ice and had to control it to be around -15 for it to work correctly.

Though i guess aslong as you keep it fully loaded it should stay warm enough

I used to wonder if ppl bothered reading my stupid sig comments...now I know! So they`ll continue....MUAHAHA!

Back to the more serious..if I ever get my new PSU, I`m gonna be trying all these ideas i`ve had/been given to work around the coldbug. The Optys are still great chips, so I wouldnt feel short-changed either way. (unless you just bought one from Ebay....)

Probably the best way would be a waterchiller as water temps would be colder than normal water but not too cold for the cold bug to kick in, should end up with decent clocks

Yay, i saw it in your sig, gotta have a sense of humour about these things, sometimes i think i get far too serious, and i take a step back and think it's all about enjoyment really.
