Mach II - Problems!!!

Hi, I got a few problems with my Prometeia Mach II. (I'm new to it!)

It is installed on a IC7-MAX3, P4 2.8c, OCZ Gold PC4000.

When I turn on the power the compressor and fan turn on. The LCD screen displays 'BOOT LOADING, Waiting...' The 4 display LED's are all on and the green one is blinking.

I press the PC power button and it powers up into Windows XP fine, and MBM saids it's at -18.

I plugged in the usb cable and it said that the USB device is not recognized in a pop up balloon, I have read that this could be a problem with the wiring of the USB cable??!

I have re-wired the cable, and plugged it in and it now allows me to access the PCC software. But at the bottom of the screen it saids 'USB connection lost - retrying'. It is not appearing in the Device Manager under USB Controllers either. 'Chip-Con' appears at the top with 'Prometeia' and 'WinDriver' below.

I also have condensation on the outside of the head. It is cold to the touch.

I think that's everything!

Please help! I have totally run out of ideas now!

Cheers,

Andrew

If it is showing in device manager then if you have installed the mach2 software try running bootloader and reload the firmware

Thanks for the quick response!

I tried the Bootloader before but it said that it could not connect... Tried it after you suggested it and it worked!! I have installed the firmware, and it is now doing the -33 before it boots thing.

The problem now is that when it gets to -33 it powers up the computer, but only for a few seconds and then the power stops to the PC??! The LCD display saids 'power down' (or something similar) and counts down.

All help & suggestions appreciated,

Thanks, Andrew

Is the mobo shutting down because you don't have a cpu fan installed ?

Huh?

I don't have a mobo fan installed, I have the prom head on it. It is @ -33 as it boots up the mobo. The mobo shuts straight off after a few seconds. This is after a firmware (succedd it said) flash.

Cheers,

Andrew

lol just saw your system specs not sure about p4's lol try plugging a fan into your cpu header as suggested just a case fan or someat

I attached a fan I had to the CPU plug on the mobo, but it continues to power down after about 3 seconds.

I think that it is a signal that the Prometeia is sending to the mobo through the 'yellow/yellow' cable?? - Maybe it is sending one to turn it on, and then for some reason it is sending another, which in effect will power the mobo down...

Is it common to have problems like this after using the bootloader, I think I downloaded the firmware version from this site somewhere.

All help appreciated,

Cheers,

Andrew

Ok, I have disconnected the 'yellow/yellow' power cable and started the mobo manually when the Prom gets to about -30. The Prom continues to get colder, until it gets to -41, at this stage the message 'Power Down' comes up. It then changes to 'Idle' for a few seconds. A few moments later it reads 'Restart' and begins counting down from 120secs. It then returns to 'Standby' mode.

I really don't know what to do with this!

Sounds like the power molex from the prommi isnt connected to your PSU. Check connections :)

Found the problem, it was with the Molex power connection; there was a dodgy pin where they joined! Can't believe it's all working now, time to see how far this system will go........

Cheers for the help everyone!

The condensation problem has gone now too! It's all good, just having problems overclocking this new system. Got this 2.8c to 3.2 but I could probably get this overclock with standard cooling! I think its a mobo setting in the bios, as it comes up with 'Disk Boot Failure' if I try to push it further...

The joys...

I like it when new people come to the forum and go through all config issues

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy

flash ur BIOS to current ....

Once done...

Run memory at 5:4 that should get u alittle more mhz.

i have a 2.8c and it ran at 3.9 ...

so i think u should get a little more out of it

come to think of it i got 3.9 ghz 1:1

What temps are u getting on load ?

what v core.

what memory are u using ?

what is the stepping on the cpu ?

I have acheived 3.9GHz also with the prometeia! It all was working fine... Then I thought I would change the fans to some nice 78CFM 21dB jobbys(they also draw less current). Now I can't even boot - after a few seconds the LCD displays 'FAN FAIL'. I replaced the two original panaflows, but I still get the same message...

I have tried switching them over (two connections A + B) but still no luck!

All help appreciated!

Cheers, Stocky

I have a bad feeling it might be the board... I dont see why, as the new fans draw less current. I have tried re-soldering the connections, but no luck. Is it possible to source replacement boards? Is there a circuit diagram about, so I can trace the fault perhaps?

Argh, I have no computer until I can fix it! (typing on a friends!)

Any help or guidance appreciated guys,

Cheers,

Stocky
