Mach II GT Need some help..

Shadow of chaos

Hi, i have had my unit for a few months now, i did get some problems at first because my A64 3500+ Winchester kept freezing up (excuse the pun) because it didnt like such a low temp.. So.. Someone reccommended me a 3500+ Clawhammer, and it actually works great.. i havent had any problems with freezes or crashing with it yet.

Anyway, on to the point.. Sometimes if i hold down the button to shut down the PC i get this message on the LCD panel of the MACH unit "No shut down" or something simular, which leaves me no choice but to manually turn off the PSU at the back.. Why is it doing this?

I also dont have the USB plugged in to my mobo from my unit, it is just running full speed constantly, and i dont think that the usb not plugged in has any effect on the problem.. Usually i get the "no shut down" message when i get a game crash such as half life 2, i know this game has issues anyway that need to be fixed.

I cant really say i have had any other problems other than that.. so does anyone know what it could be?.. a faulty unit?

Oh.. by the way, what is the actual temp of my CPU? in the bios it says -20C and on this temp program i got with my mobo (Smartguardian) it says 230C.. What is the actual temp?

thanks

It is likely to be neither of those, the temp sensors on things are generally not calibrated to work at such low temps, it is likely to be more like -20C than 230C, the ridiculously high temp usually just mean the sensor has gone crazy from the low temps.

With all types of phase change, unless you have an accurate temp probe i would ignore all reported temps and just overclock as far as you can, so long as you have good contact you generally dont have to worry about temps (apart from on the Smithfields)

obviously, whemn you hold down the power button, it has to go through the control unit before it signals the motherboard to shutdown - in which case the control unit either can't or is ignoring the singal to turn it all off. All i could suggest is using an updated firmware. but i'd wait for some more replies on the matter before you do that - of course you'll need the usb cable.

What exactly is the USB cable for anyway?.. i dont see how its important. Doesnt it just let you upgrade the firmware and set different temps of the unit?

The usb runs the control center program which allows you to update firmware adjust fan speeds and set boot temps plus a load of other stuff as for powering your unit down just shut it down through windows I never use my power button to shut down always do it through windows

I know but if the computer crashes i have no choice but to pull the plug at the back..

I forgot to mention, when i got my Mach II unit the metal plate needed bending in order for it to fit over the cpu socket correctly :-/ i think it is slanted on 1 side.. this isnt normal.

I forgot to ask.. Where do i plug in the USB lead on my mobo? i have tried a few pins but it didnt detect it in windows.. I know where the USB connection is on the mobo but dont know which pins to put it in
