Mac Mini

Hi guys, Basically My aunt dies last month sadly. And As executer of the will I am having to sort out all the household items ect.

She had a Mac Mini That i brought home lastnight to remove some of the pictures she had taken and had stored on the system.

Not knowing anything about macs or even used one before I managed to burn all the pictures to a DVD. However I have asked everyone in the family if they would like the macmini. all of them said they had no need.

And that leaves me this macmini that i am trying my hardest not to fall in love with. (only because its a new gadget)

It an older one I think Core 2 due model. 2gb ram 80gb hdd. Not sure what bloody version of osx it has. But Basically I think i may as well just Sell it on to someone that will use a mac properly.

But I cant fined a OSX cd in order to reset it back to factory and clear everything from it. I am not sure how macs work if they have serials or what. i was debating to download mac osx and use that to reset it back to factory. so I can sell it on.

Anybody know what they are doing with these things?

OSX does not require a serial when installing. Unless its runing Osx lion 10.7, i don't think there's a way of re-installing the OS without a disk

If i remember right there is a recovery partition you should be able to boot into then just restore it to standard factory settings, once thats done you can run the "Erase free space" thing that should be in the utilitys menu in all osx installs from either 10.4 or 10.5 onwards to clear over any thing that may be recoverable.

unfortunatly their is only one HDD partition so no backup is installed. it ok i will nip over to my mums and make use of her newly doubled internet speed lol.

The recovery partition isnt visible from within osx and its not all that large iirc, could be wrong tho as ive not played with the thing for over a year.

Ah, never mind. With Lion you can access a Recovery service, but I think that's exclusive to Lion :/
Sorry dude, don't really know what to suggest.

Yup exclusive to Lion.

I'm the same situation, need to put a new HDD in but need a OS disk. May end buying it from apple for £26

Yeah I saw how cheap it was and thought to hell with it, may as well buy it. Atleast when I sell it on it will come with a OS disc.
