Low 3d marks with 8800 gt :(

I've googled my problem.. subpar 8800gt performance. And theres loads of threads about it..

A couple about it running at 1* pci-e speed, but that doesnt look like the case here, as gpu-z and cpu-z both say its going at 16 times in the blue slot..

Darkorb: On the card bios flashing.. the fan normally spins at 29%. EVGA have made a BIOS that *should* make the speed of the fan ramp up faster.. but it just won't work for mine. Which is pretty puzzling.

I poked through a load of threads everywhere and am going to try the old drivers that came with the card.. and hope for the best! :)

Cheers for the help so far guys!

Ah my mistake.

Goto ur nvidia control panel and click on the System Information in the bottom left, and check what it says, see if anything screwy is in there.

Under the Components tab, check out all the versions too.

Success :D

Right, we're back in business :D

I cleared the cmos and set it to the optimized defaults. Installed the drivers that came on the cd and..

Awesome :D

Thanks a lot for the help guys! I have no idea what the actual problem was, however.. it seems to get a hell of a lot hotter now its working properly. Im going to jack the fan up to at least 40% and see how we go.

Thanks a lot :D

Work great now, the frame rate is crazy high in call of duty, dx10 crysis runs about 20~25 fps, with object detail very high and everything else high. In dx9 it just plain flys on high :)

GT does get damn hot though.. I've got a 120mm Sharkoon proped up on cut up toilet roll tubes just under it :) new case sometime soon I'm hoping!

Cheers!

Well comparatively, it 47 degrees right now. Hits 60 and almost 70. Which compared to the old gto is practically melting :)

With the fan on 100% and no OC.. it's hitting 63 degrees. And making a racket..

A Duorb may do the job..

I used Rivatuner to set my fan at 58% and the temp gets to 87C under load. I really can't stand to have the fan any louder. It was 95C load before I set up Rivatuner...

nice job on getting that fixed

should have nothing to do with the bios unles something about the speed of the PCI-E slot, but that was shown to be good..

anyways congratz!

your not the only one with problems with the 8800gt.Last week before my comp crashed i was getting full speed ,now after a fresh install look at the speed,I have tried pretty much everything i can think of ,but to no avail

I have no idea, but I`d guess the gpu can take 100 degrees without complaining too much.

Well I checked the default warning level on my GTX and it's set to 150o!

With regards to the above post, it looks like we have consistency in problems here..

Says ur bus is running @ x2 !!

hmmm, something must be doing this to bioses or something.

Automagically do it if power isn`t enough ?!?! pfft pretty feable attempt of an answer.

its an option i will try, will disconnect my other HDDs and dvd and my fan controller and see if that makes any difference, but i cant see why it would make a difference as it was fine last week

also have been on crysis this afternoon and there was no slowdown or jerkiness at all,it was running just as smooth as when i first put the card in,maybe IT is running at x16 but for some reason it dosnt show that in gpuz?

clutching at straws at the moment

What size and make is your PSU?

Hey guys, litterally haven't been around for this one... indeed it was me who messed up the slot thing last week :o

The 8800GT's have a wide range of problems, some BIOS, some memory related etc... I managed to get mine RMA'd and refund is on the way, but I was advised via the website I got it from that I had left the shrink wrap over the heatsink which made it overheat?? lol.. not likely

Thats a much healthier score you got going on now mate, good for you... These things you just need to stick at...I have the same hardware as you, minus the GT which I've RMA'd for a newer GTS... I would have suggested the following (for info for others reading this):

- Check PCI-E slot

- Check the mobo manual for recommended installations as they vary from board to board

- Always think twice before flashing the BIOS, this can be easily checked if RMA'ing a dodgy card, and you would get your request rejected.

- Check that you have enough voltage going to your card... I saw a thread somewhere where someone had a faulty 6pin power cable and that gave strange performance

- When trouble shooting, start from the basics... if you can't remember what you've changed here or there, reset the CMOS, and take note of what you change each time something doesn't work...

Just my 10 pence chaps

Alex
