Looking into an Upgrade but what?

Thanks for all the inputs so far.

Ideally I don't think AM4 is the way to go now as it's long past now so I think think upgrading to AM5 for the future is best.

The overall use is for gaming and video editing I posted some ideas on AM5 builds in my thread but not sure what GPU to get any ideas?

All depends on budget and it's easy enough to decide on that alone tbh with GPU.

As for AM5 imho wait until zen5 on that before upgrading as not only newer but if decided Zen4 is enough then they will be cheaper i expect it's not as far off as people might think myself at this stage.

GPU Wise a 6800xt?

7800XT a safer bet tbh they are similar prices and it's slightly ahead, unless you see a 6800XT at a fair bit lower price go 7800XT or a 4070 if your happier with nvidia side, there are more budget options it really depends on what you wish to spend.

the only real area a 6800XT is ahead is in anything that needs compute more in a game as it has more CU's but generally the 7800XT is ahead by 10%.

They are the same price. So GN were wrong to say buy either. The 7800XT is far more efficient, too. Always buy the new tech if you are going near the high end.

MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 7 7700X AM5 Processor
Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5 5200MHz CL40 Desktop Memory - Black
XFX Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB Speedster QICK 319 Core Ed Graphics Card

So I went ahead and brought these items from Ebuyer - they came yesterday and spent the day rebuilding this.

I prepped the board outside on the box to install the CPU and Ram and got the board in my case connected my Pump, ATX Power and CPU and front Panel connector to make sure it posted - nope dead as a dodo.

Rechecked the cables and CPU to be sure and then retired still dead.

Got hold of Ebuyer and they said to take photos of the CPU socket and they tell me the socket has bent pins - and won't accept it back!

So I've raised a dispute with my bank to get refunded so looking for a replacement any help?

Depends if they are bent pins you should be able to tell easily, they can be bent back with a razor with care, I would force the issue with them and then also the company for RMA, Idk if the bank will refund I expect likely they will, thou do expect any company to ban your account on doing so and any other action they may take.

It's a shame you had the issues with it like any hardware that is DOA as your forced to either wait or resolve yourself. I would say look into an AsRock board myself as when it came to the bios updates on most anything, they were first with all of them and also with expansion cards that added to the board as an upgrade.

I've never used them myself but after knowing about the things they were doing in comparison to others while waiting like everyone else for the bios update they were way ahead and out the door compared to other brands, so i'd honestly consider them next time I need a board myself.

To bend the pins back needs good eye sight!
Ebuyer where not really helpful at all, should of gone to Amazon, and just got a new indical board from there now here are the photos of the socket......hope the bank helps me out......

That board does not look new. Was it b stock?

The top retention has marks all over it.

It is new!

I'm taking the board into my local computer repair shop to sort the pins out and if there is no power still to the board then onto ebuyer with a written report and all the photo evidence ect.

An update....

So after moaning at Ebuyer, they offered to replace the motherboard and do an "Advanced Rma" for this. But in the end I asked them to cancel the replacement and send everything back for a refund. Because they are a hassle to deal with.
So I'm going to order my stuff from Amazon with the same idea on what I ordered before:

AMD Ryzen™ 7 7700X
MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI Motherboard

CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 RAM 32GB

Corsair iCUE H100i RGB Elite

Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti

I'm wondering is this motherboard a good choice? When I initially had this the only gripe is that the PCIx1 Slot was at the bottom for my Sound Card blocking the CPU Fan for blowing air into the case?

Also GPU? I intend to do just 1080p Gaming is this a good card or is there slightly better like a 6700xt? or the 6800 version?

I'm also after a new case.....I'm looking at maybe a Corsair one that supports 3HDD's so if anyone can point me in the right direction then that would rock!

Cheers
ROb

Possibly

I'm not sure weather to go AM5 or Stick with AM4 at this point....!

Well I think it makes sense to stick with AM4

A Friend of mine was telling about about the Ryzen 7 5800x. Will this be good for gaming and as well as for video editing?

Would also like to replace the motherboard as well and the GPU.

If you are saying that you'd like to replace the motherboard, then I'd steer for the AM5 platform. No reason to get an AM4 since it's an EOL platform at this point. Buying into the AM5 will benefit you with upgrade paths down the line and hence give your moneys more worth.

This is what I did recently, my 3700X works just fine. But I just got the 7800X3D, new DDR5 memory and an X560E-I motherboard along with it. This is due to an new AM4 motherboard would be the same price as an AM5 one, plus AM5 will give me better future compability down the line rather than sticking on AM4 that is ended essentially.
