Looking for a air cooler for q6600

As i'm switching to my Antec 300 soon WC won't be able to fit unless I mod it alot (and I can't afford it atm) so i'm looking for a good HSF that can cool my q6600 up to 3.6GHz.. And i'm looking for 3x 120mm fans that are quiet and shift alot of air (to swap with the tri-cool fans)

Any suggestions?

As a heatsink I'd recommend the good old TRUE. Cools well and isn't incredibly expensive either. If you want anything less standard, the Noctua NH U12P is a good option but also comes at quite a high price most of the time.

On the fan side of things the Scythe S-flex 800rpm are dead quiet at 12v but also don't move a lot of air. You could for example purchase the 1600rpm version and control them down to 7v using a fancontroller when not gaming.

brooksie, here's the link of mine

there's also their "extreme" editions more expensive but probably better.

true ex.

true ex black ed.

tur ex full cooper (expensive little guy, i wonder how good it is).

anyways, get the first one i think lol, at least for me its pretty good, just get a good fan.

a good fan controler is the kazemaster (i like it alot)

i think that's all, sindewinder is one of the cheapest stores i know and ships worldwide (maybe you dont even need it lol)

The TRUE is the extreme version ;) ThermalRight Ultra Extreme.

The black edition only adds sleeker looks where the copper might also improve performance a little bit but also weighs in a lot more.

Soap should post his temps as he is using the TRU and a Q6600 clocked to 3.0Ghz.

That way we can get a rough idea...

hmm, thats not a bad idea, but the ambient temp here is 32 normaly (today is raining like crazy so its 26), and also my case dont have good cooling capabilities (one of the reasons im changing for a cosmos lol), i will install cpu-z and make some tests with 3dmark aswell so i can give ya iddle temps, load, etc.

but remember since he lives in UK, and obviously its cold there his temps will be at least 20c less lol.

The 300 has a optional 2x120mm fans at the front, has a 120mm exhaust and a 140mm exhaust at the top ;) and since its january im guessing it will be quite chilly. My Q6600 atm (which is watercooled) the coolest core is 31 and all 4 cores load to about 55 at 3.3ghz

quick update. iddle core 0 42 / core 1 39 / core 2 39 / core 3 39

hope it helps for now, also im using a stock coolermaster 120mm cooler. can't seen to find yate loons / scythes in brazil

Put my TRUE 120 in the other night as I couldn't be bothered putting the watercooling back in.

Currently overclocked at 3.2ghx on my q6600 I idle at 25,25,24,27. Room temp is just shy of 15C. Will check load temps for you later :)

Oh and the fan I have on the TRUE is a Xilence Red Wing.

Bit expensive it all is :p. I need 3 fans (2 for intake 1 for exhaust), fan controller and a HSF which might need another fan. Max price is lets say £65

£40 for the black version as thats the only one I can find. everywhere I check it's out of stock.

I think my mate bought a 120 extreme but it didnt fit in his case xD (he has a 200mm fan at the side) so i'll see if i can buy it.

hmm that reminds me of cosmos S, you cant use one with the side fan (thats why im going for wc when i buy the case, afterall i like that side fan

try fitting the one you friend has, on your case first, this heatsink is famous for not fitting in cases.

yeah i'll do the try before you buy thing :P just spoke to him for like 5 mins before he had to go, he didnt say much except a maybe :)

I also found a Scythe Kaze master at a undisclosed site (not telling incase you steal them all xD) for £33.99 so i'll order that soon and and the fans:

Xilence Pro Fan 120L 1300RPM 120mm - LED Blue 3 of them, and a nice can of pussy to help me through the day :D

the fans arent bad, i saw and its only 20,5 dba, also a good cfm for mid fans, and lol about the site

looking forward to your next updates dude, also drinking some coffee :coffee:

Yes, having a large fan on the side panel could be problematic when installing a giant cooler like the TRUE, however, I have an Enermax Uber Chakra, which has a 250mm fan on the side panel, and I hope the TRUE fits fine. We'll find out this monday I suppose.

thats the case he's got. I had to pop over his and take a look at it (it was first time building) and omfg, what a pain for some decent cable management, the front connectors are at the top and instead of having it cable tied down they just.. flop.

That isn't my case mate, this is : http://www.3dgameman.com/content/view/7246/48/

But yes, the front connectors are on the top but with a little innovation, you'll be able to hide them no problem :>
