ok im pretty new to all of this. so here i go i want to liquid cool my rig but i am confused about a few things will the liquid freeze if it gets too cold and can you use antifreeze in the system? or is antigreeze conductive?

thank you

To answer your first question, no. The liquid will not freeze as it is being cooled off by at least one fan (depends on how many you put in) inside the radiator.

And don't know about the whole anti-freeze thingy.

It would also be good to know your budget so we can help you choose out good parts.

I would also like to let you know that you can't skimp on parts when it comes to liquid cooling.

You either do it right or you don't. :p

It wont freeze but coolant has a form of antifreeze in it anyways.

Your budget should be plenty matey, do you need help choosing parts?

yes please. i am thinking about changing cases so i can put the Radiator inside. the COOLER MASTER HAF 932. but the rest of my gear is in my sig.

thank you

The antifreeze is in there to stop galvanic corrosion, caused by two metals in the loop. Copper will eat aluminium, which will degrade the radiator or whatever is alu. Antifreeze ought to be pretty unconductive and most water cooling liquids are non conductive to a certain extent (i.e. don't let them leak really, but a tiny splash shouldn't kill your pc). With the antifreeze, and the pump running, the liquid would require something insane like -40C to freeze. Unless your room is -40C I wouldn't worry (and if it is, water cooling setups freezing is the least of your worries) because water cooling can only get the temperatures down to ambient at best.

My system uses distilled water only. like diablo said you only use a corrosion inhibitor if you mix metals, ie copper and aluminium. some people use a dye to colour their water.

hey

umm bout that corontant stuff i was wondering if that could happen to me because i have a aluminum rad and a copper cpu water block and im ussing tap water with blue food dye for 2 weeks now???

Yes, that will happen to you.

Even more so with tap water.

Turn it off after reading this

take it apart

clean it out

then clean it some more

with the two metals you will need something to stop this. forgot what it is, but reading antifreeze works :S

If you are using just water it should be de-ionized. If you have a tumble drier that collects water use that ;D If your system leaks it will fry the electrics.

You will also end up with algae growing in the loop mate with tap water, its really NOT a good idea, as the algae will clog everything up and is a B*****D to clean.
