LED vs LCD vs Plasma

What type of monitor do you use

i wanted to get a projector...it would easily fit inside my house, but when i go to uni, im going to be several hundred pounds out of pocket and needing another monitor :S
 
I have lcd because its the cheapest but plasma has the best picture quality out of the three formats, expensive plasmas that is. I have also read that laser technology is as good as plasma but I am not sure.
 
good quality plasmas are outside of what most would usually spend on a monitor for pc i think. imo, plasma is worth it once you start going above 40" screen size.but the response rate is very fast, and so is the refresh rate.in our house, we have a 42" plasma for the main living room, and a 32" LCD for the small living room.both are great in different ways.

if you have a plasma tv, its good for a pc, but not worth buying one just as a monitor
 
The main problem with Plasma is pixel burn. Static images makes them stay forever (for example, you put a completely black background, and you have an image of a person with pixel burn, you will see a little trace of it in the black background and everything).

That problem has been rectified in the more current plasma tvs, the plasma I have in my house doesn't burn in much, I once left it on the Xbox 360 homepage for 12 hours, and there was next to no pixel burn.
 
If you are gaming plasmas are bad in general. Panasonic recommends you do not game on a plasma. Not to mention they create a hell of a lot of heat, so unless you are in a big open room they are terrible in terms of comfort. Also may I remind you guys plasma refresh rate is WAY different that LCD refresh rate, 600hz on a plasma is the same as 60hz on an LCD/LED.

My Samsung Fascinate is a Super AMOLED display, it has a few hundred-thousand to one contrast ratio, AND IT'S A CELL PHONE! Only problem is is it uses older OLED technology so the the REALLY bright whites can turn a little bluish, but that is an easy fix in the settings.

you are only going to be using plasma on larger screens, and generally you need to be 3 or more metres away from a 42". so unless you squeezed yourself into a room with a massive plasma, heat should hardly be an issue

btw, 600hz isn't even necessary on a plasma.

even in a pretty open area they get hot. i have a 55" Panasonic Plasma and its in a pretty large living room, and after its been on for several hours you can start to feel it. I am not 100% sure why they don't recommend you play games on a plasma but chances are it has to do with games using a lot of bright explosions and lots of flickering lights.

The best part about plasmas is that they are cheap! except the new 3d ones!
 
Plasma = Old Technology, Probably can have the best quality, Can get warm enough to act as a heater too

LCD = Newer technology, downgrade version of Plasma, Less power use, decent picture quality if not very good.

LED = Newest technology, still uses LCD technology and even less power. Quality is at a decent level and can be very good on higher end TV's. Not as good as OLED TV's.
 
OLED is the same as LED, it is just an organic version and uses less power. anyone telling you otherwise is trying to sucker you into buying a OLED. now you have Super AMOLED and Super AMOLED+ which have a better contrast ratio but, again it is just a marketing name. their is no reason they cant just call them all OLED. "SUPER" just makes it sound better.
 
I would go for OLed! I have have one!

And what do you get on a OLed that you dont get on a LCD?? a HUGE contrast ratio. Basically OLed is a LCD powered by leds. But it provides you a massive contrast ratio.

I have a Lg Flatron E2350V, and it sucks at response time and refresh rate. But it have 5 Million : 1 contrast ratio that makes the image so real and defined.

Is this screen a pixel is a pixel.

Wikipedia:

"The contrast ratio is a property of a display system, defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest color (white) to that of the darkest color (black) that the system is capable of producing."

Basically is the hability of the screen to have a big diference between white to dark colors.

the main advantage to this is no SCREEN-BURN from over-contrasting. i went through 5 LCD TVs because of burning, before i opted in for LED TVs and MONITORS.

LEDs take less time to cool-down to an off-position (BLACK), giving better contrast ratios from high-whites -> pitch-black in less time (without bleeding). the phosphorus in the LCD backlit tubing takes time to react, whereas LED nodes do not. this is yet another reason why LED monitors have a faster response time (<=2ms)

they are the way forward IMO.
