they dont have a massive effect on PC's

how many threads are there on this subject?

have a look at this thread: http://forum.overclock3d.net/index.php?/topic/30369-led-vs-lcd-vs-plasma/

wouldn't bother worrying too much about getting a LED backlit screen as the panel will be the same as a CCFL screen.

LED backlit screens seem to have weird problems, also some people think they are too bright to be used for monitors ( argument is that to get vibrant colours you need to have them set too bright to sit in front of and if u set the brightness down colours are washed out

)

Some people have reported backlight bleed on the edges with LED also (unless you enable dynamic contrast which causes the screen to flicker when u get white text on black etc).

Most aspects of LED backlit screens should be identical to lcd screens tho given they use the same panels?

What advantages do you get from LED backlit screens?

Power usage

Better Blacks/whites?? (only when in dynamic contrast mode which causes flicker and often puts screen into full contrast and brightness causing it to be too bright when up close)

Cheaper to manufacture? (there are reportedly CCFLs which are 60% cheaper than LEDs)

I was looking at LED backlit vs CCFL a month or so ago as I bought a new monitor (ended up getting a Samsung SM2333)

LED screens are LCD screens with a LED backlight so the actual panels are the same.

What size screen do you want?

What are you using it for?

What specifications do you want? (eg: HDCP / HDMI / DVI)

I personally got a Samsung 23" because it has HDCP and is 1080p so works with my PS3 aswell as my PC and it only cost £135

i want a 23 inch or a 24 inch i will mainly use it for gaming and i want it to have atleast DVI as i will need the DVI inputs

I have a SM2333SW and use it for gaming etc

as I said only cost £135

Don't see much point in spending too much

I used to have a 24" 16:10 but changed to this 23" 16:9 and love the Samsung in comparison to my old VA Panel screen.

I got the Samsung yesterday

ebuyer sell the Samsung SM2333T for £130

The only thing is I dont think the SM2333T comes with a DVI cable but the SM2333SW did.

wow dude nice what about the 2430BL i mentioned earlier 70000:1 contrast and is a 24'' i heard good things about that also and it has the things i need

Well seem the difference between LED and LCD has been told, but each persons definition of Quality could be different.

Mine personally is to have the most true colors to do so a ColorMunki Basically it just calibrates your monitor to true colors (Also dose printers but I don't use that) and so no matter if I have a cold cathode LCD or LED LCD my colors should still look the same after configured.

These things are a bit pricey tho :S Its good to just know some one with one

LED uses only a form of LED backlighting, but it's quality is remarkable. if I were you, I'd just price up and look at differences.

LEDs are MUCH better for gaming, give it another year before the price drop and they are at .05ms response time. thanks to LED technology response times below the 1ms mark are easily accomplished. not to mention lower power consumption and over 1,000,000:1 cr. the high cr could improve game performance because you can see you enemies WAY better.

The contrast ratio on LED backlight is only there because of the dynamic contrast function which most people wouldn't use as it can cause flickering and can be too bright.

Not sure how it would be 'better' for gaming.

Response time in current LED backlight panels is the same as LCD as the panels are LCD panels.

.05ms response time panels are OLED which are over £1000 at the moment.

Because contrast ratio is based on dynamic changes you can't see enemies any better than you would if you had it at a fixed value

I would suggest you try these theories out as when dynamic contrast is right up colours become too vibrant and the contrast between light and dark is actually worse as black becomes grey.

Unless you're making the comparison between OLED and LCD
