Hi,
first of all, i hope this is the correct sub-forum.
My laptop is a HP Compaq Presario CQ71-320SG and it has been giving me some trouble lately. First of all the battery seems to be broken. The laptop cannot be charged properly, but that never really was a big problem, because i only use it at home where it can be constantly connected to electricity. Next it often gets heat problems, so that it sometimes crashes from getting to warm. This however could be avoided with an extra external cooler and regular cleaning.
Since yesterday however something seems to be wrong. Yesterday night when i wanted to switch it off, it took ages to shut down. It then showed a blue screen. Unfortunately it was to quick to really read, but it said something about dumping memory, avoiding damage and changes to the hardware. I used it again today and everything seemed normal. After 30-45min however it just crashed and switched itself off. The way it did so reminded me of what happens when i use it for a while without it being connected to electricity or when it overheats. It felt fairly cool however. I rebooted it and continued using it for about five minutes, when it crashed again in the same way, producing a kind of sizzly clicking sound in the process, if that makes any sense. Since then i haven't used it again. One more small detail that might be important would be the little lamp on the laptop next to the electricity cable, that shines when it is connected. It flickered when i moved the cable, so there seems to be a loose contact. When it crashed the second time however, i am pretty sure that it was shining.
Do you have any idea what the problem could be? Could it be that it crashed the first time because the electricity cable wasn't in properly and the second time because i didn't give it enough time to "charge up" after putting it in correctly?
Thanks in advance!
