Laptop kerfuffle

My boss at the paper shop says his laptop's broken, he pushes the on button and the light (no light specified, but a light somewhere) flashes then it turns off, no buzzy or turny sounds.

What I think is that the HDD light flashes, the hard drive doesn't start because it's broken and he needs a new one.

Anyone have any other ideas, the only other stuff that is replaceable is the RAM and power brick but I don't think they're broken from the VERY brief description given above.

It *could* be the power brick if the battery is completely dead. Does he have another adaptor that he can try on the laptop first?

If not, HDDs aren't really all that expensive anyway. Does he still have warranty though?

I don't think he has another power brick or warranty.
No idea on battery condition but I told him the price of HDDs and he's not too fussed about that so hopefully it is the HDD and that'll be that.
The only other easily replaceable thing could be the RAM but I've no idea how to test if it's bad or not.

it's not the hdd, else he would at least get some sort of an error.
my guess would be broken psu (quite common).
