A fair few expected this, but for the few hopefuls, this is bad news

nVidia confirms no new GPUs this year

Thoughts? I don't really thinks it makes too much difference anyway, Crysis 2 and Total War is about as demanding as they get

If AMD manage to make their 7xxx series cards quiet and cool then I bet people will just buy them instead seen as they are due out this year, only die hard fanbois will wait for Nvidia.

The only reason not to buy AMD at the moment is the heat and noise, but if they fix that then Nvidia 6xxx series not coming out till next year shouldn't be too much of a worry. Buy an AMD 7xxx series card and if the 6xxx series turns out to be better sell it and buy one of those.

I don't think even AMD are going to release until at the least Q4, but yeah, people with go with whatever is the newest/has best performance.

But the heat and noise issue should be sorted, or at least helped by the transition to 28nm

I disagree. In my eyes it would be foolish to just run out and buy 1 companies next gen card before seeing what the other "team" has to offer. I generally weigh up the pro's and con's of the new gen cards when they are both released before making my purchase. After looking at Nvidia's gpu roadmap some months ago now, I'm very interested to see if Kepler is about 40% - 45% better than the current Fermi gpu's their progression slide showed.

That's what happened with the 5xxx GPUs that ATI/AMD released. Although they were the first DirectX 11 GPUs to be released but still Nvidia last a large market share as they took so long to release the Fermi and when they did people were not very impressed cos how hot and noisey they were.
