Kepler coming MARCH 23rd

Never going to happen, if it's faster it will cost more. There is no way Nvidia would charge £100 less for something that they could charge more for knowing people would still buy it.

So using your point here, what are the Fermi series of cards charged for at the moment? There is no real price drop (in fact the 560ti i bought 10 months ago still sells for the same(!) price). Which, following your above logic, means that fermi series cards are still bought. Which means that your point below is... pointless.

This delay for Nvidia is going to cost them, both Intel and AMD are taking up most of the market at the moment.

But it's not pointless, more people will be buying the new cards over the old ones, so even though they are still being sold there will be less of them sold than the newer cards. Also, all of the 4xx cards and some of the 5xx cards are EOL and most of them not being made anymore including the 580, so you won't be able to buy them new soon, they will only be second hand and when bought second hand no profit goes to Nvidia.

When the 7990 is launched no one will buy the 580 or the 590 so that is even less sales, on top of that Intel and AMD are taking most of the mobile market and low end market, meaning even less sale for Nvidia.

The fact that they are releasing another version of the 560 to try and counter the 7770 should tell you they are worried bout sales, otherwise why would they even bother trying to counter it with an old 40nm part instead of countering it with a new 28nm part.

And it is fail, just like Fermi, Kepler is late with nothing but hyped up speculation minus the wood screws. By the time the high end Kepler is released the 7990 will have been out for months and the 8xxx series will be around the corner so it will be a waste of money buying the high end Kepler.

so does that mean that the 7990 is coming out in april with the 8k in the summer dude?

nv are releasing the 670 next month it seems which will beat the 680 hands down and should be in and around the 7970, nv aint going to ask more than £350 for their mid range, even the upper mid range cards only to need to drop their price later when the high end come out.

7990 is next month and the 8xxx series at the end of the year.

People with the money to buy the cards will buy the fastest one, the 7990, and with nothing from Nvidia to compete with it till Q3 guess which card they will be buying. With the 8xxx series out in Q4 would you buy the high end Kepler in Q3 knowing that a couple of months later the faster 8xxx series will be available?

No one knows how much Nvidia will charge, no one though AMD would charge as much as they are and AMD are always cheaper price to performance wise and Nvidia always charge more. When they do release the 670, AMD will adjust their prices for their old cards and new ones too, so most likely AMD will still be the better price to performance wise.

At the end of the day tough I don't care who has the faster card tbh I don't look at it as Nvidia vs AMD I look at it as one card vs another and which ever is the best, is the best, also taking price to performance into consideration. I'm just looking at the sale affect it will have on Nvidia not putting them down.

I wouldn't be so sure. They are reportedly releasing the 670 ti. The *70 gtxs are more high end than mid-range imo. *60 series is what I consider mid range. So when it is release they should be placing it in the correct price bracket for the range. The past two *70 series cards retailed for about $350-370. There is no way for them to put their mid to high end range card in the flagship high end price point even if it does out perform the competition. Otherwise when the flagship is released it goes into an even higher price bracket which would be foul play.

AMD will have to drop their prices after the 670 is released, at least on the 7950. Nvidia could also have the 660 ti and other various low end and mid range cards to release between march and Q3/Q4 2012. Which will cripple AMD's prices to where they should be. I am willing to bet they will be called the "Krippler" series after while.

P.S. I am an Nvidia Fanboy, but I would go AMD if they had the best card.

To be fair, they need to release the 580 alt asap as the 580 isn't up to playing current games and falls very short of the 7970...

Why even release anything new if you look at it like that, although I see what you mean

That's the thing really. I mean the supposed failure on the back of sample reviews (that went on to break all the performance records at the time) the 480, got refabbed as a 570 (that got pushed loads cos everyone thought it was suddenly great) (irony). Why not refab a 580 as a... 670 or 660ti or whatever.... People already loved it, add some memory maybe - Bob's your aunty.

Reviews I seen at the time of launch, had the 580 beating the 7970 in... oo maybe 2 out of 8 games, by the margin they beat each other by which is miniscule in real terms when everyone calms down. What's a revamped version of the 580 going to do to the 7970 ? Beat it in 4/8 ? for old tech that's an achievement.

Laptop fabs from all manufacturers use a step down with a rejigged name from the new gen. And as you've changed your fab moving forward, your design has to fit in with the releases about to come so they can be destinguished in terms of performance comparison.

Yeah this is pretty annoying for my new build too. Annoying when you are waiting for the "next gen" and it never seems to come

I'll just get a 670ti or whatever it is called and save up so I can buy 3x 680 when they are released later lol

Also nvidia ftw for cuda, I use that a lot in rendering so never having amd!

Are they going with your sr-x build

wow your picture of ur build scares me.. spaghetti nightmares!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Yeah

can't wait to start getting stuff. It's annoying waiting around knowing what you are going to get without actually knowing cost!!

The build log will just be longer than I had hoped as I'm not sure about water cooling it before I actually get all final bits

My two cents... I have never owned a ati card in My life and each rig i ever owned i went for the flagship card. But seriously im tired of waiting for nvidias response to the 7970s so i guess im going ati this time. Im sure that like me many others will end up doing the same, maybe ill even start liking ati/amd gpu's... So tbh I think this is a bad move by nvidia cause they risk loosing clients to the competion in the long run...

Speaking from a non fanboyish perspective. (i buy what ever card gives me the most bang for buck for my budget I dont care if its green or red)

When the 7970 was released Nvidia made a big deal of stating how they where disapointed with there counterparts product saying they expected more performance from it, In other words trying to give people an incling that something big is coming out.

And now it seems as though they dont actualy have anything ready to counter the 7 series of AMD. From the outside it seems as though Nvidia are in a spot of bother. They have not only had to reduce the price of all their current cards due to a higher performing AMD card being released for the same money as they where charging for their old chips. But they also dont have anything to offer up against it bar rebranded 5 series cards with a few tweaks.

nvidia are being very "mouthy" regarding their new GPU's a bit like AMD was with bulldozer. trying to get everyone to purchase 990chipset board so they would have no choice but to purchase bulldozer when it came out dispite performance. In my own opinion Nvidia are doing the same, they are stating this and that to try and make people wait for their new cards. It does suprise me that Nvidia seem to of droped the ball a bit on this one, as they are normally the "winners" so to speak regarding GPU's performance. But what they are basically doing now is telling everyone that their card thats coming out in 6 months time will beat a 7970 that is available now. And in terms of how quickly hardware goes out of date, thats pretty stupid on Nvidias part.
