Doesn't the lightning have a cooler that blows a good chunk of the hot air into the case? For SLI or Crossfire I'd stick with stock coolers that blow air out the rear or I'd go with water cooling. I had had a card with a custom cooler and swapping it for *two* cards with stock coolers had improved the cpu and mobo temps.

honestly i dont know were this notion came from that GPUs that blow into the case are necessarily bad. in fact every time i had one it kept my north bridge cooler. But still as long as you have remotly decent air flow you will be fine.

It's only a problem when you CrossFire/SLI. As a single card then yeah a high air flow case will balance out any negative.

Don't worry about the cooling guys, I've got lots of noctuas for the Elysium plus I still have my raven rv01 if things get a little toasty

The notion came to me from HWMonitor and my old rig. As I said, two cards with stock heatsinks (2x 6870s) were keeping the case cooler than one card with a custom heatsink (sapphire 5850 toxic) that blew air in all directions, even though (according to benchmarks) 5850 and 6870 consume similar amounts of power and produce similar amounts of heat.

Some cards (including 5850 toxic) blow some hot air towards the front of the case. This precludes "remotely decent air flow" in a typical case.
