Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the correct section, if not, please change it.

I have noticed some weird emails in email inbox. I use Outlook.com and I recieve junk mail on a daily basis.

Although, today I got 2, which has only happened once before, which the junk mail had the email adress of my own.

So for the sake of privacy here, I will refer my email adress as "123@oc3d.com".

It says this:

"Dear oc3d.com,

We are looking for employees working remotely.

My name is Loretta, I am the personnel manager of a large International company.
Most of the work you can do from home, that is, at a distance.
Salary is $2200-$5400.

If you are interested in this offer, please visit Our Site

And the other:

"Dear oc3d.com,

We are looking for employees working remotely.

My name is Erin, I am the personnel manager of a large International company.
Most of the work you can do from home, that is, at a distance.
Salary is $2300-$5800.

And had "from" my email adress... now I asked Dicey about this, but he didn't have a clue either. So now I'm asking you... Do any of you know how this is possible?.

This email was recieved in my Junk inbox.

Thanks,
Chrazey

It's pretty simple to do, and pretty normal to receive.
I know how it's possible and if you're interested search for SPF spoofing.
Other than that I'm not sure what you're asking?

Okay, thanks for the info... Now from what I've read there are several ways to prevent it. Do you perhaps know of any easy way to do it?.

Try increasing spam filters. Though it went into your junk box so there's not much else you need to do really. That's what it's there for.

Pretty annoying having/getting daily unecessary mails there though. No way to block them from even coming into that inbox though?...

Why is it annoying? Hide the inbox. You'd need an independent spam filter but I don't see how they'd work with an online service like Outlook/Live

Isn't that what the junk email box is for? I just check mine every now and then in case there's a legitimate email in there then just right click and select 'this is not junk' if it's legit.

They work pretty well tbh.

I think that's your issue right there. Hotmail/Outlook has always been bad for spam.

How is it annoying it's one click. Just mark them as spam and job done.

Not entirely true. I've had a hotmail account for over 10 years now and I rarely get spam, I maybe got around 10 last year. I presume it mostly depends on how spammers get your email address, whether it be account dumps, 3rd party advertising, etc.

have more than one email account works for me, one for registering with sites and one I communicate with.

Basically, this is a side effect of being on the internet, and putting your email address in public places.

Considering the fact if you search for your email address on google, you've openly put it on a forum (the one where you admitted to being a d1ck ;) ) I'm *very* surprised you get as little spam as you do. Especially considering your D.O.B. is on said post, I'm amazed you still have control of the account at all at this stage.

In short - 100% User error

Haha I think he's received more lmgtfys than any other user :P

I imagine so, I've probably bumped that number up a fair few in the last year or so. I'm guilty of requiring a few when I cannot be bothered every couple of months (or to keep a conversation going and interesting and to get people's opinion), but when every other post is googlable, it becomes a go-to pretty quickly :P

you could install thunderbird get your account there and then install the JunQuilla addon

it won't solve your problem... but could make things a bit better...

I literally don't understand what this means and I've tried reading atleast 5 times over...

Will check that out later, thanks for the tip.

Let me try to make it a bit simpler.

1) Spam happens, that's called the internet. You just have to live with it

2) If You google your email address (not posting here, because that will defeat the purpose of my point). You find a public forum post with it in, in which you admitted to being a d1ck in a clan some time ago.

3) Your email address, and date of birth are on said post

4) The fact that information (and other info on that post) is out there in plaintext form, shows that you're not responsible with your data (or at least weren't)

5) I'm surprised, with that information that someone hasn't already busted your hotmail account wide open because

6) Hotmail isn't exactly super secure (fairly well known issue)

7) The issue here, is completely caused by yourself.
