Julie's Pants

Ordered this. Threw my yellow one in the wash, but have a feeling I am not going to like it much now.

I used to use these, but they don't last long enough tbh, so now I just fold up a T-shirt and wash when needed lol

haha. It should be OK. Stitched edges. The yellow one I have doesn't have stitched edges and I have had the thing bloody years. It won't get heavy use, as it's not my main PC. Just the one I use at mum's.

Happy with - Eloop fans in the top.
Not happy with - Cheap crap CM fans that only offer 26 CFM @ 2500 RPM. They literally scream, and for all of that screaming they shift bugger all air.

JzQRD58.jpg

Double the CFM @ 800 RPM less. TBH? it's not even the noise that bothers me, it's the sh1te GPU temps I am seeing. Got these too.

I fitted the Noctua fans. It was much better. However, the case is a proper hot box. The GPU has to be ran at 100% when playing PUBG (bless Unreal Engine ffs) or it crashes. I also wasn't that happy with the PSU (Bronze, runs very warm and non modular) or the cooler. I found out they are notorious for leaking.

When I built Tyson last year (the 2080Ti KP 3950x rig) I almost got this and a CH Impact.

hN7205L.jpg

But realised if I made savings by using a regular ATX board I could have the 240 cooled Kingpin over an air card, so I went that route. Now though? I have all of the best bits I have now (board, CPU, RAM, 2080Ti Aorus Xtreme) and so on. So I bought a new, much better PSU.

wziHDws.jpg

And a better cooler not known for leaking everywhere. With RGB for some added bling.

Should be a nice upgrade and make cooling far better.

Not a bad looking case i take it it's a little like a cube case PSU behind the mobo, the difference a good PSU can make to noise levels is pretty huge since getting my RM850X I barely hear my PC my soundbar blocks out any fan noise.

Yeah. This thing spins the fan 100% all of the time. It's also side mounted.

Meaning there is now a lovely dusty patch on the side of the bloody case  I did think about using a filter, but it's quite restricted as it is. It was a great stand in at £45, and will make a nice spare, but yeah want something better really. I need to find out what these do :D

E06gSIq.jpg

Like, the Eco switch. Hopefully it's some sort of hybrid fan mode. F-ed up part is that it's only PUBG that makes the rig a cooker. I played through nearly all of Deathloop so far and the GPU fan never goes over 50%. PUBG? 100% pinned as soon as you start the bloody game.

I just ordered these. Thought it was going to be £12 more than it was, but my friend ordered it for me as he gets free shipping from Scan with DPD. These cost me £23 all in, well worth it I reckon.

Yeah I know I know, dreaded SATA cables. I need my storage, and the board only has one NVME slot on it any way. I know I have a 2tb Firecuda in there, pretty sure there's another 2.5 in there also. I really don't remember :D

I absolutely love ITX tbh. I just think I over did it a bit, considering the heft and size of the GPU. It definitely needs a little more breathing room than I gave it, that's for sure.

Edit. Yeah, there's a 2tb Firecuda in there and something called "1TB SSD". I think this is the SSD I keep forgetting I bought lmao. I don't even remember what make it is. Ahh, the joys of getting old !

I have a mixture of data, 250gb ssd for OS 2x1tbnvme 3x3tbsata 1x4tbexternal pretty much full :)

I did think about getting some extentions for the cables, but tbh it looks fine for me, thou next time I may well think about it, i'm on hold now PC wise until zen 4 my system is pretty solid and i can wait it out a while for my extra gfx fps performance gains with a new CPU.

I like the idea of ITX, but for my use case ATX is much more my need, but then you have multiple rigs so having one of each makes sense :D

This room is just so tiny and it's all I have here. Mum has the spare room stacked with supplies ffs.

A full atx was too much. It was literally like a dividing wall lol. I love ITX now but I just went too small for the hardware I'm running.

I wish nvme storage wasn't so expensive once you go over 1tb. A 4tb spinner costs about £70 or so. A 4tb nvme? Hory sheet.

I really hoped by now it would be more affordable. It's not though.

What's nice is I have a GPU only alphacool mini pump and pump top, and a block for the 2080ti aorus. So if it's still driving me batty then I have options. Or Id like to custom make a shroud for the 2080ti aorus and whack a 240 aio on it. That would bloody sort it out!

As I say though it's literally only unreal engine that makes it crap its guts. Even high end stuff don't even get it warm. Which is a bit of a sod when you have played over 1k hours of pubg in just over a year and love it. We're all kinda praying for something like pubg without all of the cod and bf ghey, with the recoil and skill of pubg that makes plays so satisfying.

I've yet to play Pubg but then i am a big battlefield fan for many years the new one is what i've been waiting for since BF4 prefer the modern warfare than ww1/2 stuff i put a fair few hours into the open beta i enjoyed it but just wanted more maps :D

My GPU only cranks up in heavy games that have DXR otherwise it's like it's idle sound wise.

If it's suffering now in URE4 maybe it'll fair better in URE5 kinda looking forward to seeing games use that were not quite next gen just yet but it'll be nice once more games are out that are.

the 2 nvme's I have one was like 125 other was 2nd hand for 85 both 1tb and i just use one for VR and one for normal games, just move games as needed if i want the loading speed but stuff fills up fast i just have too many games and not enough life left to finish them all :D

I expect nvme will drop in price in time and 4tb might be around 150 at some stage, just going to be a while as the speed seems to be a bigger focus than the space and cost side of things sadly.

Sounds like you're looking for the ArmA games that PUBG traces its lineage back to. Or maybe Insurgency for something a bit more polished?

The new Ghost Recon Battle Royal looks to take a similar approach too.

We play Insurgency. Quite a lot as it goes. Sadly compared to PUBG it's like a glass of water compared to a glass of champagne. PUBG, for all of its flaws, is absolutely excellent and I don't say that lightly. It's just so dynamic. Every game is completely different and because of the mechanics there is always that one special moment you generate that makes it so good.

We're not very good at it, and we die a lot, but the laughs we have are unmatched. Plus the recoils and etc are all very realistic. Much more so than any other FPS game I have ever played, which is what makes it so subtle and skilled.

Sadly for some reason Unreal Engine has a beef with certain 20 series RTX cards. I think it has a beef with all GPUs, but some of the early Turing cards suffer with it badly. AC is another game that can make the VRAM overheat. It's quite a common issue on 2080Tis tbh. When I bought it the guy I got it from was honest about it and sent me a link to a thread where people were complaining about it. Fan profiles and ETC stop it crashing but yeah, its just a GPU cooker.

With this case I have more options. Like, far more options. I still have the block for this GPU too, so water cooling is not out of the question given the case supports two 240mm rads. I still have a pump and top too and loads of other gear.

Yhh fairs, I've got a few hundred hours in PUBG but been a couple years since I played, always was a toaster for me, still ran much better than the PUBG mod for the DayZ mod for ArmA2 and stuff, but for a while I'd have to take my side panel off when playing with my HD7870XT+FX8320.

If still looking for new options, the Player Unknown Battle Royale mod for ArmA3 is quite good too if you wanted a change in style (More mil-sim base game) with the same overall gameplay. We've been looking at that new Zero Hour, also looks to be in a similar vein to these games gunplay wise, looks a bit like Insurgency, it's still in early access tho so not played yet myself

DayZ (Standalone, or the ArmA3 mod for a bit of a more fun alternative) is another game we've played a lot which similarly goes for quite realistic gunplay, and comes with a lot of very unique moments, but of course a very different overall style and pace to the BR games.

I'm very interested to see how this build turns out, never seen that case before

There are a couple of new ones coming. Special people? something like that. Basically a clone. Super People I think - ed.

It's totally 100% social tbh. I play with four guys my age (one is over 60) and the laughs we have are just superb. But yeah, scratch under the surface and you reveal some subtle nuances that just make it so much fun. I have captured a few moments, sadly without the chat. The first time I got a BRDM/BDRM/BDSM whatever we are calling it on the day was just hilarious. These poor guys had no idea what to do (spray, with something powerful). Sadly I did not capture me singing the "Trolololo" song and my mates crying with laughter.

It was the bit at the end that had us in hysterics. All that build up, drama etc and I just got out and blasted him :D

This was another really funny one too. I wandered off (I have stopped doing that now) and before I knew it they had gone and I was miles away hiding from a red zone. Having played it you will understand what's going on. I called it "Shelled peas". Again, we were crying.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vfk4b1C7KUY

And things like this too. Where you finally learn how to lead off your shots and pull off the impossible.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkWgKhIOXuA

There are just so many of those moments tbh. Now? it's pretty much all I will play. At least four nights a week. Which, after many years of being in a sort of gaming purgatory (waiting for a game to come out only to find I'd seen it all before or it was broken or crap) is pretty cool.

We just can't do all of the COD and BF silliness like grappling hooks and flying around like an idiot completely unrealistically. PUBG devs are ignorant AF, and there is still a lot wrong with it, but if it wasn't for the fact you basically conjure your own magic every time you play we would probably play nothing.

Wow this thing is mad complicated. It's genius though. Peed around with the PSU a bit, trying to get a good angle of attack. Then I realised that I should just undo the swing arm.

WjrYVyT.jpg

Mount the PSU.

YPa3BEg.jpg

And then just swing it back shut.

WNWYM1Y.jpg

Then I spent ages messing with the AIO, before I realised I should just follow the same principle.

JcZtRFC.jpg

The cables are here, so it's time to shut down and strip the PC.

KfCHD6h.jpg

I've also hatched a plan to reverse mount the hard drive box, so they should be completely hidden in the centre channel.

Next up board.

Because I flipped the hard drive cage and fitted it inside (as you can see here) I fitted these two fans to get air in there for the drives. Ill run them really slow.

Nice thing is there is a cover that goes over the hole too. About two fiddly hours later.

Just need to find somewhere for the PWM hub for the two black fans, then just button it up.

Cheers Steve. Not a case for those with toddlers who like to poke things :D

I couldn't fit the front panel with the glass in. It was sitting right on the GPU. That said with a 23c drop in GPU temps and the fans not going over 50% (try 100% as soon as you load PUBG, or it orbs and crashes) I was loathe to any way.

It's a beautiful case. Top to bottom the quality is just wonderful. I think my favourite part though is how the AIO hangs off the back like a parachute on a drag car.

I still need to hook up the PWM hub for the black fans, but I need to drill a hole in that cover panel so I can screw it in. The adhesive has gone, and I don't want it floating around in there. It's a 5 minute job tbh, I just didn't feel up to getting in the attic to drill it today. Those fans are only to shove some air into the HDDs any way, so not critical right now.

But yeah, overall totally stoked. I was beginning to wonder if the GPU was screwed, but then I remembered it didn't do it on water. I think the reason was that in the old case it was literally right up against a solid alu wall. This means that within a minute the VRAM was hitting 100c. Even with the fans on 100%. Any more than that? it would start showing coloured orbs, then crash within about 10 seconds.

Now?

4Ww5WRx.jpg

You can literally see all of the back of the GPU. Meaning that heat has somewhere to go, and not straight back into the PCB and thus VRAM. Temps before? 79c with fans on 100% within a minute of loading PUBG. Temps now after an hour left soaking in training mode in PUBG.

8fqtD3Q.jpg

And that is with the fans at 60%, where I can't even hear them (same as in the video basically).

Hmm. Just realised maybe I can reduce the "under clock" now and shove up the temp limit a bit.

Removed the underclock and undervolt and put the memory speed back to stock. Gained an extra 30 FPS. The GPU now sits jammed at 70c, which means it does not get to 75 where the fans would ramp up. Two hours of PUBG last night confirmed everything was well.

I did get the odd red orb about every 30 minutes or so, but nothing that made it crash. VRAM never went over 70c, some 30 lower than before.

Very happy. Now to make a GPU guard from 5mm white acrylic using the glass as a template :)
