JackyBoy's WaterCooled PC

Man.. The mounting of the two rads is something. Getting all the air out might be a bit of a pain in the arse though.

Some good news and some bad news...

I left it running for about 6 hours yesterday, and the good news is that it didn't pop and shoot water all over my pc, bad news is that there was a little bit of liquid around the barbs on the radiators where it had obviously seeped between barb and tube. i left it switched off all night and there seemed to be a little more had leaked out, not enough to drip but it was there. So obviously the barbs on the rads aren't the best :( (also i think the nb was poss leaking ever so slightly too :(

so what do you recommend i do? ive got tie wraps around every barb, do i take them off and put a couple on even tighter around them? or drain it all *shudder* and put on new barbs? Or buy some jubile clips or some other fastener? Or could i also use a hot glue gun and put that round the base too to seal it?

Any advice please, im at work at the moment so would like to have a plan by the time i get home

i'd try tie wraps again but this time make sure they are realy tight i.e. no small gap left were the 2 ends connect.

Well i ust figured out that it was actually the fact that the barbs on the radiator didn't have an o-ring seal on them or anything so that is where it is seeping out. So I am going to have to drain it enough so i can get the barbs out and put some ptfe tape around the end then screw it back it, which is such a pain in the arse, but i should have seen it coming in the first place.

Never have i been so close yet so far :P

Right! (nearly) All finished!!

I turned it on last night and runs like a dream, no problems what so ever!

The loop with the cpu, nb, gfx on i only had the pump on 3 (out of 5) and it was idling at 30 across all 4 cores, then load went up to 35!

8800 idling at 31 (or 40 using EVGA overclock tool) and went upto 36 (or 45) under load!

At work at the moment but will upload the pics of it tonight, still need to sort out the wires hanging out the back, and make a new wiring loom for the fans as they arent really long enough, but at least it runs at the moment. Just need to sort out some H section rubber for the window (i've got a thready about it here about where to get it from, please post in there if you can help at all).

Also becuase it's only just been turned on and everything has got new thermal paste on (has been on there for about a week tho, at least) how long should i wait before it has bed in and start overclocking?

Right another pics-a-plenty update!! Nearly finished (even more lol) now too!

So here it is, well the bulk of it anyway :P

But then here it is from the back...mmm cable tidying, more fun than using the pc itself!

P6250064.jpg

But i suppose it will get there in the end :)

Now one just of the fans from the back

P6250066.jpg

Now on to the case window...

P6280067.jpg

All the tools ready! (eye protection is a must!)

P6280068.jpg

Now i didn't really get any other pictures of it along the way, but here it is, the finished window :D

P7010072.jpg

I'm really pleased with the result actually, might have to put something near the psu at the bottom to make that more interesting. Might have to get a little peice of plastic with all the companies that have helped me, oc3d at the top of course, instead of using case badge stickers. I've actually only just thought that up but it sounds like an awesome idea! lol

Another closer pic

P7010071.jpg

One of the inside with the window, just incase you wanted to marvel again:P also with the uv strips in...

P7010074.jpg

But sadly they only light up half way, it might be the little box they are plugged into, might be the fact theyre plugged into the same molex with a fan? dont know yet, not a priority :P

P7010078.jpg

My dad also helped me daisy chain the fans, so i dont use lots of plugs, havent finished with that yet, but it's just a matter of doing the little things really

P7010080.jpg

and of course, the cable tidying still!

P7010073.jpg

Well thanks for reading and looking, i've ordered the OCZ ram cooler to keep them nice and cool too, I saw the antec spot cool, and just thought this looked a little nicer, thanks for the advice anyway :)

And stay tuned for more updates, and overclocking results soon! :D

Wow! That looks awesome Jack!!

I love the blue and green water and the case inside looks really tidy too :D

Now get playing games!

Steve :)

Thanks steve, you know how much effort i put into it!

And thanks nick :D and its not that loud tbh, the Xilence fans are amazing, its more of a humm than any real noise, whispering covers the noise lol

really appreciate the comments already :)

Bloody hell, what a unit :D

Nice one mate and there is nothing more satisfying than doing it all yourself is there? 1 question and some constructive criticism if I may?

I noticed that you seemed to have remnants of the green protective covering on the Perspex. Is that gone now as in the pics it still appears to be there?

The rubber moulding that you chose for your case window looks to be quite large and in the corners it appears to gather/scrunch as well as. If you get yourself some smaller width moulding strip it will handle those curves easier. Plus the narrower width moulding will allow a greater margin between it and the sides of your case door, which looks a little more neater aesthetically imho. What thickness Perspex is that btw?

bloomin eck!! One nice computer, loving those brackets for the rads too.

Im with PV on those comments he's made (simply suggestions so dont take anything wrongly), WCUK ( the company linked through this site) sell some great little edging which would look amazing on there, used it myself and not have any problems, but that chunky stuff sure is chunky, ive never seen it in a build before, great idea though.

As for that cathode, ive had that, normally means either not enough power is getting to the blighter or give it a flick, might simply just need a gentle tap to get it to light up all the way. I suggest trying to plug it in somewhere at the start of the daisy chain, as in, the molex in the line nearest the psu.

That cable managment looks interested, i literally LOL'ed when i saw it, simple solution, lots of cable ties and some creativeness. XD.

That sure is a nice computer though, really liking it, im sure youll do the same as most of us, sell it, build one bigger and better, mod the **** out of it and impress not only us but yourself. Keep up the good work. ;)

(ps, get some night time shots too)

haha thanks for the comments, and i gladly take the critisism, and completely agree with them really :)

Yes PV"eagle eye"5150 :p it is still there, but only becuase i wanted to get it working quickly So i havent gone round and taking all the extra little bits out that are stuck under the rubber, but i shall remove that today :)

Yeah i had trouble finding that rubber trim tbh, and i didnt expect it to be so thick, but gladly i dont think it looks too bad, but i do completely agree, i wish it was thinner. (and yes it does bunch in the corners, but shhh and we can pretend it was supposed to be like that ;)). because its a H shape so it does hold it in really tight the only place that really does it is Boat Windowscreen Accessory Shops (obviously!) . But it's not glued in so if any time down the line i want to change it, i easily would be able to :) Or if anyone comes across some, i only need 1.5 metres and just let me know! The case is about 6mm thick and the perspex is 4mm.

Thanks Sock, yeah i had a look at that stuff from WCuK but its only in C shape so i didnt know how well it would cover both edges of acrylic and case, maybe if someone could get some pics of it actually on the case or something that would help? And yeah, i bought a pack of 100 cable ties from maplin...might need more tho lol ill just take my time to fit it all in :)

And no i won't be selling this one...never...well...i suppose i wouldnt mind giving SLI a go...and it would be a shame not to upgrade my cpu as intel have tried so hard making them... lol

Ill take some night shots tonight for y'all. Cheers

Yeah well done on what you've done with it so far mate and case modification is a personal thing after all. It's all a learning process :)

Yeah it really was for me as i the most modding before this was putting a different cooler on my ATI 9600XT lol. so i did jump in at the deep end, but im pretty happy with the result. My ram cooler just came this morning, about to go open it so i might do some overclocking tonight :P

Here it is!

P7020063.jpg

looks like a really smart bit of kit actually, build quality feels nice on it

P7020066.jpg

Just some quick images of it on aswell

P7020068.jpg

Im really happy with it, as you can see it puts out blue leds but the red/yellow of the ram still come through, and soften them which is awesome.

Im gonna remove the blue leds from it, and im thinking of spraying it matt black, might look a little sleeker and not stand out so much, what do you reckon?

another pic, close up

P7020069.jpg

haha, gonna overclock it by the end end of the week, might need your help a lil on that, but i think ive got the basics down :D cheers khan

Well i've taken the ram cooler off to spray it, and my dad has done the other set of fans today, so all i need to do really is put the cooler back in and do the cable tidying! cant wait to start upping the FSB! haha

oh and he sorted the UV lights, so due to popular demand (that's just you Sock lol). here are some night time shots!

P7050079.jpg

P7050081.jpg

When the ram cooler is back on it will soften the lights from the ram so i think it will make it look really good, i should have them uploaded on sunday, stay tuned :)
