Lo lads
I just wanted to share an experience that I've just been through, and one that I hope none of you have to endure. Yesterday my youngest son Dylan (he's 5) was rushed to our local children's hospital emergency room after being pulled off the playground monkey bars by another child at lunchtime yesterday. Dylan subsequently suffered a Colles fracture, or more accurately, a double Colles fracture because both the Radius and Ulna bones in the arm were broken halfway between the elbow and wrist (see top image below). Looking at his arm when deformed in that way almost made me ill and the missus burst into tears.
Anyway after speaking to the doctor who was on duty and after a series of X-rays we were told that Dylan was going to have to have surgery and manipulation to help repair the breaks in his little arm. It is extremely hard to try and explain what is going to happen, and why the need for general anaesthetic to a 5 yo lol. Furthermore; I can honestly say that I felt absolutely hopeless/useless at the moment that they wheeled him into theatre. You try and prepare your kids for many of the obstacles or temptations that they may encounter during their formative years, but yet you can't take their pain and just make it disappear.
Dylan was allowed to come home today which I'm really stoked about, but we do have to watch the swelling present in his hand which can cause further complications. Sorry for sounding like a blithering idiot but I needed to vent, and we're all friends here.
