Hi there everyone,:hello:

here is my question i am looking to overclock my CPU it's a :amd: athlon 64 x2 dual core 5200+ from stock 2.7GHz to +/- 3.2GHz if i can,in my mind that is not a big overclock and i think that it will be ok on this air cooler or am i just dreaming?

i currently running at 55/60c idle!!!!!! keep in mind it's warm here.

Now can this air cooler do the job?keep is mind that i am on that coolers price limit nothing more.

Thanks for reading this.:)

not a whole lot of surface area and the fan selection would be critical for noise and
performance. since it is a lay-down cooler, I assume you have case mounting issues?
have you looked into the Noctua versions?

Hi airdeano,

i do not understand what you mean with case mounting issues, unfortunately we do not have Noctua in south africa,is there any other cooler you can think of that is the same price and will be better for me?

In my opinion it's not going to be worth buying a brand new cooler to cool that CPU.
Play around and see what you can do with what you have now, just find whatever clock you CAN get and run it at that, and put the money towards a new CPU :)

Two pieces of advice :
1) Try re-TIMing the heatsink, since those idle temps are WAY too high.
2) Any AM2+ motherboard can take a AM3 CPU therefor you could quite easily upgrade to something like a phenom ii x4 without too much trouble :)

Hi iBeInspire,

i have removed the heatsink and applied new thermal past but still the same that was 3 months back,i do not have the money to buy a AM3 processor so i looked at air coolers so that i can at least overclock the cpu i have at the moment, but thanks for your advice,

does anyone have advice on a better cooler for the same price rang?

could you tell me what that would be in pounds, I don't recognize that currency from the 'R'.

EDIT: I would recommend getting a CM Hyper 212 Evo if you can get the money for that.

Right mate, just figured that when you said South Africa xD. And if you have to go from this website go for the zalman cnps10X Optima and get a new fan for it.

Hi thanks!!

i will check some review and see if i can buy it,i can latter use this cooler in a new rig (when i have money)

Thanks again to all will update with what i will do.

Hi everyone,

I got myself the cnps10x optima,Now my problem is on stock cooler i got 55/60c idle in Hardware monitor and now with the new cooler i get 45c average,in my bios it's 25c can it be that the sensor is broken or something?

It's a very cold day today so the room temp is fine.

i had a look in cpu-z and the Vcore is 1.35V where on wiki it said that the cpu uses 1.2V and i tried to downclock to 1.2V and see the the temps go down but i can't downclock 1.35V is the MOBO's start V

So i decided to overclock the cpu (but not the Vcore) and see where i can go for the amount of vcore there is,i will use OCCT for testing.

Does anyone have any idea what can be the problem because i can only think that the sensor is broken?

What processor is it?

I'm guessing AMD if it won't let you go lower than 1.35v.

Your post is very confusing. You change from stock to aftermarket, and idle temps go down 10/15 degrees? Not sure what the problem is there...

BIOS temps will always be lower as the CPU won't be under any load whatsoever, it'll just have power running through it, so you'd expect to see it only a few degrees above room temp. As soon as you boot into windows it'll go up to the 'idle' temps of 45 or whatever you have.

Maybe screenshot, or take a photo of the BIOS volt settings?

Hard to really help a great deal when you don't mention any hardware specs apart from the cooler.

Hi jamesriley94,

in my first post on this topic you can see my CPU it's a AMD athlon 64 x2 5200+ (stock 2.7Ghz) now OC'd to 2.9Ghz (2.958Ghz so can i say 3Ghz?) - my current Voltage is 1.360V,i don't have a problem with the temps i just thought it would be lower but all is well love the cooler,

This topic is about OCing so here is the current stats i have in the bios,

Bus speed: 219
Vcore: 1.360V
multiplier: 13.5

Just say what you guys need more.

i know that is not a lot of info but when i set the bus higher then 221 i get Blue screen - is there any way for me to go higher in this OC?

Please remember i an a NOOB to OCing but can anyone give me hand to get to that 3.2Ghz goal i have, can it be done?

Thanks for the reply
