Hi guys. So basically I have this monitor.

I bought it on Fleabay at some point for my media bed but it only got used for about a week. I broke off the stand so it's standless lol..

Here's a better pic.

The monitor itself is built like the usual Lenovo stuff. It's absolutely gorgeous.

The picture quality too is just sublime, even though it's quite an odd resolution that's 16:10.

OK, so here goes my idea. Right now I use my M11x laptop on my lap on a laptop comfy stand thing.

Right, onto the idea...

The idea is to build a device out of MDF that basically looks like a laptop, only wider so I can fit my mini keyboard and mouse onto it for gaming. On the back I will mount the monitor using a VESA bracket and then buy one of these...

The issue for me right now is that even though we have a 50" TV I'm getting absolutely demolished in FPS games because I have to use a pad. Plus the TV is not directly in front of me so I get terrible neck ache when playing on the sofa..

So do you guys think this is a good idea? kind of likea faux laptop that has a screen and KBM? at least I'll be able to play my games properly..

Is any one here fluent with Sketchup or any other 3D modelling program? could you knock up some prototype images of it to give me a better idea of how to go about building it?

16:10 isn't odd, its the res we had before tv's and consoles took over with 1080p :P

The picture quality on that monitor is right up there with the best I've seen tbh. Above the LG I had and the Hannspree.

Going to test it just to make sure it still works in a bit :)

so basically you want to build an XXXXL laptop? i like the idea, but there is so much you can fuck up. also you'd have to choose between either laptop or PC hardware, which makes it either too big or a waste of money.

Ah it seems you've missed the point like my friend did earlier..

It doesn't need any hardware as it will connect to my main PC. I have everything I need apart from some 12mm MDF dude :)

Check the project logs section it will make sense then :)

ahh. so it will be basically be like a table for your sofa with built in keyboad/mouse and a monitor. yea, alright that is most likely not that bad of an idea. will be hard to make it look decent though. will check the log.

There is a thread over on the project logs section where a guy is doing the exact same thing mate. It might be worth a look.

I'm pretty sure you mean his own thread

When I first read the OP of this thread, I didn't like it at all. But having seen the project log, it's actually not that bad! Might need some long cables though. Will be interesting to see how this turns out :coffee:

It should only need a long DVI cable. The power cable will reach easy :)

I mean if you think about it most people who use laptops have them plugged in any way so it's no worse than that :)

Are you going to be using a wireless keyboard and mouse then? :o
