Is the Silverstone Raven 1 good?

So yeah I was looking at getting a new 'card setup this morning due to the 290x being a small bonfire and I came across this case and well... I want one, however I'd like to know if it'd be a good purchase. I should probably explain that I know it is a very pricey case and probably not worth it for my current setup however I am actually planning on selling my 8320 system to a friend for a slightly lower price due to him not being able to use consoles at his University.

Anyway, I'm eventually going to go down the i7 route (I now work full time so I can afford to do my dream build and I also need to record gaming footage as part of my tf2 highlander matches) and I like the look of this case but I want to know if it is worth the cash? I'm probably not going to do a custom loop on it as that'll be reserved for my other project. The reviews of it are positive but as always, I prefer to ask you lovely lot as you'll usually offer a better perspective on products.(I bought an xfx card based on good reviews ¬¬ )

Cheers everyone :D.

It's a good case, albeit a bit outdated and honestly you can get better cases for the money these days. Still looks good though.

What hardware will you be tossing in? :)

The inside looks nice but not a fan of these space sort of looking cases. If you like it though then go ahead. Treat yourself! :)

basically
an i7 4770k (might get a 4930k if I feel that I'm going full OP)
Either a seidon 240 or a h100i
(probably) dual gainward Phantom 770s (best looking cards imo) or dual OC'd 280x
not sure on the motherboard yet
storage wise ideally 1 512gb ssd and a mechanical hard drive for storage (I currently need a tb of storage for music, family photos, DVDs etc)

From a personal point of view, that thing is hideous :P

I do also own an alienware case, to quote my friend "Taste isn't something you specialize is in, is it Joe ?" ;D

Its definitely a love it or hate it case.
It's not a bad case.

But, for the money, the RV02 and RV03 are a fair bit better IMO, and considerably cheaper.

I did look at the other ones, however I find the design of them to not be as "Individual" as the RV01. I still think I will consider them though as they're all very well liked and it'd be silly not to.

Does this even fit a 240mm rad?

Meh, even if it does, this won't be the ideal case for it. Let alone for SLI cards. You'd be better off getting something with better airflow and radiator support imo.

Yeah turns out it doesn't really have the support for anything more than a 120m AIO cooler. I'd be tempted to go for an air cooler but you are right, airflow does look a tad poor to say the least.

-EDIT- So yeah I want an interesting case, kind of spaceship/interesting stylee as this build will be centered around star citizen. I'd like it to be quite quiet and have decent cooling

I'll take a look :D. The only issue is I keep seeing the RV01 and it keeps tempting me. So far I think I like the Rv02 a bit, its just the other RVs are not as mad looking as the RV01. I've actually used a stryker in a friend's build and wasn't overly impressed with it but good suggestion :D. Never acually seen a phantom in the flesh but I do hear loads of good things about them, however I could never go for a white one myself (TTL I am not).

Apparently they've announced a new RV, the RV05 (source). I kinda like the look of it more ( I still suspect most of you lot would hate it). This has no 5.25 drive bay as well, which I guess is a good thing.

I have the RV01 and I love it, It was moddled after the stealth bomber/fighter according to Silverstone, The temps inside are awesome and the inverted motherboard tray really gives it that unique look, Personally I think it looks like something batman would use :P

Okay that looks good *-* My only issue with it is I won't be putting a custom loop in it so I'm a tad worried about cooling issues, especially as I will be getting two cards. would the cooling be sufficient for the cards? I see you've only got one card in there.

And yeah it looks like something out of batman :D

I took this picture before I got my 2nd 780, The temps even now with 2 x 780's is really good, 1 runs at about 26'c when the rig is completely idle and the second 1 maybe 1-4'c higher.
I've never seen either of them go higher than 76'c and that was when I was stressing them.
So in short, Even with 2 cards temps are great.

Well, I know what I'm getting myself for Christmas now! Thanks to everyone for your help, expect a build log sometime in the next two months :D.

1 more thing, The top vent had mesh with very small air holes so I removed it and replaced it with some black 1/4 inch hexagon mesh, MUCH better airflow and I also modded the plastic top cover to have a larger space for the CPU ventilation.

Ah right, I'll guess I'll have to do something like that when I get the case. Yeah I did hear about the top restricting airflow quite a bit.

The mesh on the top is literally THE only gripe I've had with this case, Change it out to the 1/4 inch mesh and the temps drop like crazy for such a small mod :)

I will do then. A couple of quick questions, where did you get the mesh and how is the noise? sorry for the questions, I'm just sick messing up with cases :l.

The noise is like any other case really, Haven't noticed any difference between this or anything else.
The mesh I got from MNPC Tech in the states, You can get it in england but everywhere I tried was out of stock at the time, I was impatient and ordered it from the states :p
