Hi All,

I have a AMD Phenom 8650 triple core, looking to buy a new system but on a budget so have be looking at the new sandy bridge i3 2120 or the AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1090T Black Edition. which is going to give me the best performance?

what do you want to use the system for?

IMO i would go for the 1055T because its cheaper, and you can OC it to get pretty much the same thing as an OC 1090T... also i believe all the extra cores would be good for folding (which you should start if you get that hex-core

Well if you already have an AM3 I would go for the Phenom x6. Its the cheaper option since you already have the mobo.

Aye and the i3 wont allow you to clock it either, deffo better off with the AM3 as its a quick in out swap.

I would wait, With Bulldozer just around the corner and B3 revision Sandy Bridge stuff coming back in stock ebay and other places will be flooded with old AM3/1156/1336 hardware that people want to sell quick so they can up grade

I would need new motherboard as have AM2+ not AM3

AM2+ has both ddr2 and ddr3 memory controller. AM3 processors WILL work on AM2+ although AM2+ processors will not work on AM3 its all backwards compatible, just not forward compatible lol.
