Corsair / Asus build Ft. LE Chrome Dominator RAM, Strix 1080Ti !

Hi guys,

Quick shoutout to the main man TinyTomLogan for all the amazing content he puts up on the Tube!

Thought I'd join this community as you seem like a friendly bunch

Here's my (finally completed build!) I had an i7 build planned since the i7 960... so really quite overdue. I've been stuck on an AMD Phenom II 955 and a 6970 for quite some years now, so it's quite beautiful being a video editor and photographer to have a better machine.

Funnily enough, my work wasn't a reason for upgrade, rather the announcement for Fallout 4 VR. Having owned the HTC Vive for quite some time now, I thought it was a good time to throw some beer tokens at a new build.

Specs:

- Intel i7 7700K @ 4.8Ghz
- Asus Strix Z270E
- Asus Strix 1080Ti OC
- Asus Strix 1070 (PhysX, I had it spare so thought I'd use it and why not )
- Corsair Obsidian 450D Airflow edition
- Corsair H115i
- Corsair Special Edition Dominator Platinum 32GB RAM
- Corsair AX 860i
- Corsair Maglev fans
- Samsung 850 Pro 500GB SSD (soon to be replaced with M.2)

So here are a few WIP / beauty shots and some (almost) completed shots

and an (almost) completed build. I plan to do the upgrades noted above, but also add some white LEDs to give it a glow to show components a little better. The pink / magenta isn't as intense in person, but shot to stand out for the internet haha!

That horrible horrible 24 pin... (again, the reason I plan to change the PSU )

I hope you like this build. As I say, a build like this has been a dream of mine since the original i7 range. Quite some time later, I've been finally in the position to have a machine like this

I've built machines in the past that were a complete mess, although it was mostly because of the horrendous bright orange / blue and beige colours used on motherboards back then... so I wanted this to be much more aesthetically pleasing (at least to me!)

So, it's been quite some time! Work got in the way and my indecisiveness made things a lot more complex... but some upgrades have happened and a bunch more photos to be added!

So first up the Maglev fans. Oh boy did it take a while to decide between all black or two white / RGB fans for the radiator..

I decided to change all the fans to Corsair MagLev fans for a bit more static air pressure on the H115i and all better performance of airflow. As you can probably tell by now, I'm quite a fan of Corsair... heh.

This was a bit of a pain in the butt install as I had no thermal paste for my CPU. Otherwise I would have unmounted the whole thing to make life easier.... but no.

Maglev fans as it stands:

2 X 140mm intakes
2 X 140mm rad exhausts
1 X 120mm intake (I *really* would rather have this as an exhaust but it means the h115i tubing catches the fan. I could get an ugly guard, mount the radiator in a different place, zip tie, but ya know.. aesthetics)

I also decided to FINALLY ditch the CX series PSU. This wasn't because it wasn't doing a good job, but mostly for the lack of modularity. It drove me insane when I had to take that back panel off.

Good ol' hard wired PSUs.

I am fully aware of the issues surrounding the 760i and 860i AX series PSUs, but decided to take a leap of faith, so fingers crossed no issues!

AX 860i installed and Maglev fans.

I have some metallic graphite sleeved cables installed, but with no images yet as I'm waiting on the gorgeous MNPCtech billet aluminium cable combs to arrive.. so will update once that is here!

I really hope the temptation doesn't get the better of me to go SLI 1080Tis and do a custom water cooling loop.. That gap in front of those front intakes is tempting...!

Yeah, it's pretty unconventional. I use the 'PhysX' reason as an excuse for now, although I do have the Batman games... The 1070 was an upgrade from a HD6970 from back in the day, to power my HTC Vive. The 1070 was the tiniest bit too long to fit into my current case at the time - so a new case was ordered and well.. it got massively out of control and here is the system that spiralled from a GPU being too big.

About 3 months later, I got the 1080Ti for a bit more power for VR and thought, heck, why not stick the 1070 in as it matches fairly nice. This is until I go SLI 1080Tis... and water-cool.. and who knows
