Hi, i was wondering what is better, a Core 2 Duo E6550 or a Intel Pentium G630. At the moment ive got a P5K with E6550 overclocked at 3.33Ghz and i want to upgrade to the newer Hardware, but, i dont have bought to buy the nice stuff. Can i get a decent Overclock on the Intel Pentium G630 on a Asus P8H61-M LE?

The pentium will be faster at stock than what you have, but there is no overclocking on the H61, and even on the overclocking chipsets (P67 and Z68), you can only boost the base clock to around 104-108MHz at best, as this is tied to everything else, such as the SATA ports and PCIe speeds. If you want to overclock you need a 2500k and a P67 or Z68 chipset.

ohh.. hum. so how about this Motherboard (MSI H61M-E33) can OC genie auto overclock the Intel Pentium G630? so, what kind of OC could i get with OC genie? So, the Pentium G630 2.7Ghz is faster than my E6550 at 3.33Ghz? lol and btw, can a H67 OC?

the 6550 is a funny chip, its 65nm but on the 1333 fsb so it is limited by how far you can push it on its x7 multi.

the g630 is a better chip, even stock it will beat the 6550 at around 3.6ghz and thats before you even start to oc it which they do and very well from what i have seen but as said you need the right board.

if you are broke mate and need more performance a q6600 or q9550 would be a nice cheap upgrade but if you have the cash to cover a z69 and 1155 cpu with the rest of bits needed (ddr3 and heatsinks) then it the smart thing to do as spending on 775 is dead money tbh and wouldnt be more than a stop gap you know.

okay, so if i get the g630 will it bottleneck my HD 5770? as i sed, my E6550 is oc to 3.33 and it runs good with the 5770. but i think its becuase its OCed, otherways it would bottleneck. :S

they are a nice pair but a faster cpu will never bottleneck an older gpu mate, if anything it will help get the best out it.
