Intel E6600 idles at ~48 degrees celsius!?

My newly installed E6600 CPU is idling at roughly 48 degrees celsius. This is at stock speeds and with the standard retail cooling.

I'm guessing this is a little hot, or is this about right for stock cooling?

Everest is reporting that Core1 is at 37c, and Core2 is at 36c, with the CPU temp at 46c (as I type).

I want to try to o/c the CPU to about 3.2/3.3Ghz, but these temps are a bit worrying.

Hmmm.... My sig should display my hardware, but it's not appearing in my posts.

[EDIT]Ah... Now it is...[/EDIT]

sounds a little hot to me, but what is your ambiant temp?

You are definately going to need some different cooling, I am sure you will get plenty advice from here, you might want to mention what case cooling you have, the ambient room temperature, you r power supply to name just a few just to give us all a chance of helping you out.

To some of the guys on here 1 degree cent makes a difference so specifics please. :D

I tried adding a list of my hardware to my sig, but it didn't apply to my older posts unfortunately.

I don't know how hot the room itself is. I don't have any means of finding out unfortunately. It can get quite warm in here, as the sun shines in all day (I do leave the window ajar though). The motherboard temp is at ~28c.

I have an Enermax Liberty 500W PSU. Sorry - It was missing from my sig initially.

The Nine Hundred case has 1 x 200mm fan on the top (set to medium), and 3 x 120mm fans (1 back and 2 front, all set to low). At the moment, the sides are not even on the case as I'm still tinkering.

The CPU fan is running at 835 RPM according to Everest.

put all fans on high,m and cpu too 1200 or higher, b4 u shell out on better cpu cooling, see what the diff is

omg mine idles at same temp but its got vcore at 1.5 and is oced to 3.3 and i got the arctic freezer 7 on but im gonna have to arrange the case flow

I put the sides on the case and the temps went up slightly (CPU is now at 54c). I've now upped all four fans to the high setting. Keeping cables tidy in the Nine Hundred was impossible, so they're probably obstructing the air flow a bit.

Stupid question though... How do I increase the CPU fan speed?

Now, what i did for my e6400, i basically dropped the vcore some, lowered my temps by a ton! I was told that my vcore was too high (It was on stock) so i lowered it, was able to get 2.9ghz@ 55C under full load. Thats my only idea...But i still got a zalman to get it even colder :D

Thanks - I'll try lowering the vcore.

One thing I have noticed is that the metal clasp that holds the CPU in place is bent on my board (it sort of bends upwards). Whilst is does lock down, I've a feeling this bend might be preventing the heatsink from seating properly. Is it possible to get replacement clasps? Also, I've had to re-sit the heatsink a few times because it was really tough to get it to lock into the board.

I have some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. I might remove the stock paste and see if it makes a difference.

If Frag sees this hes gonna blow lol

:p

Good cable routing is key to having a rig that stays nice and cool. Admittedly my cable routing job in my new rig could be better but I'm just not motivated enough to spend a few solid hours trying to route the cables like I usually do.

At the very least, get a shazload of zipties and start zipping clusters of cables together rather then letting em just drape all over the case.

And replace the stock Intel cooler, it's just pure shat, not even worth the cost of the materials to make it.

Sounds like a damaged mobo - if it is bent and looks like you can't fix yourself, RMA it, if it bends upwards it will deffo stop the heat sink making full contact and will be causing your high temps...
